Proof Oasis is NOT overpriced to counter COXSWAIN

In the post by Coxswain Proof oasis is over priced

he compared her to other ships in RCI fleet, that were older, and smaller. Therefore comparing apples to oranges. VS Apples to apples.

You cant really compare the Oasis to any other ship out there at this point because no other ship compares. But if you look at some of the new ones out there. and some old ones you will see she is priced reasonable.

1. RCCL Oasis of the Sea inaugural 2009

7 day Eastern Caribbean (April 2010)

Interior OceanView Balcony Suite

$1189 $1299 $1419 $2599

2. Disney Magic inaugural 1998

7 day Eastern Caribbean (April 2010)

Interior OceanView Balcony

$1509 $2089 $2569

3. Carnival Dream inaugural 2009

7 day Eastern Caribbean (April 2010)

Interior OceanView Balcony Suite

$689 $869 $1009 $2029

4. Disney Dream inaugural 2010

They don't offer 7 day Eastern Caribbean, but if you take the price of a 5 day Bahamas, divide by 5 days you get the price per day and times that by 7 you get the price for a 7 day. here is what I came up with.

Inside Ocean View Balcony

$1020 $1216 $1608

So just comparing the few newest ships Oasis is right in there with price, They are not the most expensive for an April 2010 sailing, but also not the least. I am not aware of other new ships up and coming, but I tend to just watch RCCL, Carnival, and Disney.

Oasis, is not the ship for everyone. Then again some people don't like very small ships. It is a matter of choice, and RCI has just given us another option for people to try.

But Coxswain, it is almost as if you want RCI, and Oasis to fail, just because you prefer not to sail on her, doesn't mean you should wish for her to fail. That's like me saying, I hope you don't succeed in life because I don't care for your attitude.

Lets try to be positive, and hope for the best for everyone.

Enjoy sailing on whatever ship and cruise line you chose. I know I will.

The Oasis suites are overpriced, in my opinion. You can book the Royal Suite on the Jewel of the Seas at $5000 per person for a nine night cruise.

A Royal Loft Suite on the Oasis for a 7-night cruise is about $10,000 per person depending upon the date and season.

While obviously the Oasis offers a totally different experience that none of us has ever witnessed before, I will prefer to wait for the pricing to iron out (which will probably happen when the Allure starts sailing since by then the initial novelty will have worn off and we will have a second ship).

While experiencing the Oasis in a balcony cabin will only set you back a few hundred dollars more, in the suite category the price difference really hurts.

Happy cruising,

Agreed. If anything I believe the OP proved jj's point. If I can sail an upscale line like Disney for less than the Oasis its a no brainer to go with Disney. For those who want to sail Oasis more power to them

Price versus value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. While the Oasis pricing structure is in line with other new ships coming into service, it's an individual decision as to whether the "upcharge" is a value considering the cruise experience. We are looking forward to taking Oasis at some point, but for now the Price/Value equation doesn't compute for us.

Why does anybody care what someone else thinks? I dont care if someone says Oasis is over priced, too crowded, will nickle and dime you, it doesn't fell like a cruise ship, you cant see the ocean, its a floating mall/theme park, will over crowd the ports.......Who cares? Its my vacation and if I want to go I will....If people blast it , I am not effected in any way. Why do some people feel the need to defend their right to go on this ship or to fight with people who disagree?

I think Oasis is overpriced too, but I'm still going to be on the 12/1 sailing anyways :D It's overpriced but worth every penny!

The reason that there are so many cruise ships and so many cruiselines is so that everyone can get in where they fit in. If you think its too much to pay then don't. It's that simple.

LOL...if you consider cruising with 1000 screaming kids and a bunch of cartoon characters "upscale" then I say "HAVE FUN"......but my definition of upscale cruising would be Crystal and other such lines...

I think the oasis is overpriced....right now.

Like all the other ships...its only new once. The older it gets, the cheaper it will be. Does anyone know when the allure of the seas is being built?? I'm sure when that one pops out of the RCCL belly, oasis will be the back burner child...

I want our (my fiance's and Mines) first cruise on the oasis. But our wedding is not for another 2 years. I hope that the wait and the early planning gets us good prices. But at the same time, i don't mind splurging a lil bit because i like what the ship has to offer

Disney is considered mass market just like RCCL, Carnival, Princess, etc. If you want upscale you need to go to Crystal, Oceania, Silversea, etc.

Upscale does not include cartoon characaters for me and I want a casino which Disney does not have.

Not only is the Allure under construction, she is also open for bookings so basically RCI is selling two Oasis class ships now.

I agree...I would NOT call Disney Cruise an upscale line at all...and I'M A DISNEY FANATIC!...Disney does have niche items that will apeal to many people (the new out-door water-coaster on the new Disney Dream being one), but taking EVERYTHING into account there really is no comparison...would I love to cruise Disney?...of course but its still a bit pricey for me...would I even pay more to sail on OASIS?...ABSOLUTELY!!!...it just has MUCH MORE TO OFFER than any other ship...PERIOD!...I would sail on Oasis before I sail on Disney, unless I WON a cruise on Disney...its just a matter of preferrence, supply and demand and what people are willing to pay for an unique cruise experience...

ROTFLMAO Two ships (soon to be 3) does not equal a mass market line

In my mind, the ship is just the vessel that gets me from point A to point B. Therefore, I think the Oasis is overpriced. I compare itinerary, # of days at sea, and room price. In my opinion, the Oasis has a horrible itinerary, way too many people, and booking an interior room for 7 nights would be the same price or more than booking a balcony room for a B2B on the Serenade. I know the Serenade is older, but she has everything I want and need in a ship, and the itineraries cannot be beat!

I think you will have two groups of cruisers on here that will either think the Oasis is great, or think it is overpriced. Those who cruise for the ship will with think it is great. Those who cruise for the ports will think it is overpriced.

so i'm thinking in around a year, the allure will be ready to set sail? With 2 nearly identical ships, i don't think there will be as much clamor for just the oasis... i hope that brings the prices down in 2 years time.

Does the ship really just get you from point A to point B? Don't you eat? Go to shows? Swim in the pools? Sleep? Shower? Enjoy the views? If all of those elements were lousy I doubt that you'd be OK with it. If all you want is transportation to the ports of call, take a plane. You'll get a lot more time in the places that matter to you.

There's no question that Oasis is a destination in and of itself. I'll look forward to sailing on her someday, but for now: I'm glad that she and Allure are on their way so that I can finally start to consider Liberty, Freedom, and Independence. It's kind of like how I'm finally going to get around to buying an LCD TV in the next few months. Wait long enough for the supply to increase and the demand to fall a little, and the price will come down.

Yes, I do eat on the ship, enjoy my room, and see a few of the shows. However, an older ship like the Serenade will do just fine for those things. I don't need 24 venues in which to eat. I don't need an ice skating rink or a flow rider. I enjoy my balcony room, and I see very little difference to what will be offered in a balcony room on the Oasis vs. an older, smaller ship. I know other people will enjoy those things, and I welcome them to enjoy the larger ships!
