Lobster Mama Posted November 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2009 Hello all: My husband & I are first time cruisers and are sailing out of Baltimore on Dec. 12 on the Mercury. My question is for Nassau: I do not want to purchase the package offered thru the cruise but we would like to see what Atlantis has to offer. Can we walk to it from the dock? Is it worth the money to purchase the DIG tour when we get there? We don't want to do the water slide thing or beach thing - just sightsee a little. Any advice???:)

They used to have a boat ride that you could take to get there for a few bucks. Or grab a cab. Maybe someone who has been more recently can give you some updated information. You might also check over on the ports of call board. You can get good tips over there as well. Have a wonderful time:)
Rare Lois R Posted November 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2009 I meant to add...check the Bahamas Forum:) They have lots of threads about Atlantis:D
alicam Posted November 14, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2009 It is about $4 for a cab ride per person from the dock to Atlantis plus the driver will want $1 for the toll for going over the bridge (don't worry...everyone has to pay it)...you can also take a boat over if you want...price will be similar...you can walk around inside and look at the aquarium if you want (both in and outside) but if you want to see more, you're going to pay more....I don't know about "the dig" because we didn't look into it
JanineM Posted November 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2009 We were in Nassau last weekend and took the water taxi over and a regular taxi back. You could walk, but it is probably 3 miles or more. We won't take the water taxi again (if you go to the Bahamas page you'll see my scathing review ... bottom line is that you wait and wait and wait, but a regular cab is the same price). The regular cab was $4 per person. You can certainly get a feel for the hotel and casino by walking around. You can also see some of what the aquarium has to offer. There are plenty of shops to visit and the casino is beautiful. On our cruise the shopping lady mentioned that the admission to the "paid" sections of Atlantis are free in the evening, so if your ship isn't sailing til very late in the evening it may be worth checking that out. Hope you enjoy your first cruise!

Any advice???:) Hello we were at the atlantis two years ago. YOU can hop a ride to the atlantis from the ship however, you will only be allowed to stroll arou7nd inside the atlantis not out on the beach as there are security guards at each door and they check your braclets. IT IS a LONG LONG LONG walk to the shp but when you get off the ship you can hop on a little boat right there and it will take you over to the island( cheap) but unless you purchase a ticket that would allow you to go out on the beach( no use of the pools or water park) and see the DIGG and all the fish out back. It would be a waste of time to just go over there. HOPE that helps

Lobster Mama Posted November 14, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted November 14, 2009 Thanks everyone for the great tips! I am trying to do as much research as possible so we can get the most out of the trip. I have always wanted to go on a cruise (even tho our work involves a boat and water every day:D) so I am trying to make this one as memorable as I can. I appreciate all the input! The pass to the DIG only (arm band) is $45/person - bought at the main desk at Atlantis -- there are two areas -- one in the front, and one in the back (shark tank). Both are fun to see and would take a little over an hour to go through. Aside from that, there is lots of inside high end shopping throughout Atlantis, along with places to eat and slots to play. Worth the $4/person taxi ride over and back. Vicki :)
lallak1 Posted November 15, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2009 We were at the Atlantis last weekend. It is exactly two miles from the cruise ship terminal to the Atlantis if you walk, so certainly doable (per my pedometer, which I used to walk from Atlantis to the terminal). You definitely access the Marina area restaurant and shops as well as the casino without paying a fee, and pretty much the main casino areas. Getting out to the pool areas is more difficult, as there are guards checking keys/wristbands at pretty much every entrance.
