Can we charge table chips to our on board account?

Does Princess charge a fee to do it?

Yes you can, but you'll pay 3%. If you don't want to carry cash, call Princess and put cash on your account before you leave home. You give them a credit card number, the amount you choose is charged immediately and when you get on the ship all you do is go to the cage and get your money. You will find vouchers in your cabin for whatever amount you chose. There is no charge for doing this.

We don't add cash to our account, but order casino credits for all our cruises. They will charge your credit card when you order, and there will be vouchers in your stateroom in the amount you pre-ordered. You just take the vouchers to the casino cage and cash them in for cash or chips, your choice. No fee this way, and you can send yourself as much or as little as you wish. ;)

If I am not mistaken, anytime you charge to your shipboard account at the casino cage, they do charge you the 3% fee. Opening a slot bank at one of the machines is a different story, as that does not add the fee when you charge funds to your account though.

Absolutely correct Toto. But for someone who wants table cash, playing with the slot bank may not be practical, since as you know you can only get $100 per procedure.

News to me Pia, I had no idea about the $100. Guess you learn something new everyday.

But if the OP sends himself shipboard credit he wishes to draw from in the casino, instead of casino credits, wouldn't he still be charged the added 3% when charging them to the shipboard account? Or did I misunderstand you there?

I meant for him to send himself casino cash, not put cash on his shipboard account. Didn't I say he'd have to pay 3% if he did that? Or did my fingers say something other than what my brain was thinking? I need to go back and look.

 

As for the $100 max, it's really a PITA. I wanted to take out some of the extra OBC (I had way too much) and had to go from machine to machine because it would only let me do $100 at a time. The old way was better, because if I took $300, I just paid the $9 and that was that.

Lets say I want to buy 3K in casino credit on my Princess credit card for our Rome/Manaus cruise in a couple of weeks. Please tell me the procedure without incurring the 3% hit.

Hi Earl...........here goes.

 

Call Princess. Tell them you want to send yourself $3000 in casino cash. Give them the number of your Princess Visa. Charges will be put on your card immediately. Ask for an email receipt.

 

When you get on board, 30 $100 vouchers will be waiting for you in your cabin (or shortly thereafter). Take said vouchers to casino cage where they will have matching vouchers. Sign each one and they will give you the cash. You can do it all at once or piecemeal. Take said cash and put it into your cabin safe and spend or not spend. Up to you.

 

6000 quick and easy points credited to your Princess Visa account.

 

Is this now clear?

Earl, just as Pia says, it is a very simple procedure and we use this on every cruise. Although I honestly think we need to keep the topic on money actually SPENT in the casino here as we know that Princess does monitor these boards at times, and discussing using this cash for other things will be a sure fire way to get them to limit this and how it is spent. Just a little opinion I had to throw in there. ;)

You have a point there Toto. Mouth will remain shut. :p Then again, I will have to do a substantial amount of $$$ for our April trip to Europe. 40 days aboard and will need Euros almost everywhere, so will need cash for ATM's.

I do not gamble much but would like to have some cash readily available. Any problem with charging $2,000 or so and then getting the cash at the casino as needed and using most of it elsewhere?

When you send yourself casino credits, it is charged to your credit card as a purchase on the day it is charged (not to your shipboard account after you board), and not a cash advance charge. I have sent myself that much (and more) in the past, no problem. As to the second question, not going there as I already posted, or this could be limited in the future. ;)
