Rare Kinkacruiser Posted November 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2009 For those who have been to W. Malaysia and Singapore in June, can you tell me if the mosquitos are buzzing then. I assume one would see more in rainforested area rather than cities if they were about? What about onboard at night watching movies (MUTS)? Thanks
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted November 24, 2009 Author #2 Share Posted November 24, 2009 What I really want to know is whether to pack one or two cans of insect repellent. Some of thre posts here receive 12" of rainfall in June, so I expect there would be mosquitos in vegetated areas. Thanks in advance...
comcox Posted November 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2009 Read through the CDC website for each country of your trip: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/ In SE Asia mosquitoes are year-round but there will less problem in the cities. Since there are currently at least two mosquito-born "fevers" that have no vaccination or cure, I wouldn't take a chance.
Philip217 Posted November 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2009 Do I understand your post correctly? You are asking if there will be mosquitos in the Tropics in June ?????
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted November 25, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted November 25, 2009 That's right. We have them here too but only after rain. As it rains all year in SE Asia I imagine there will be some, but mainly in the rural areas.

Bufrenee Posted November 25, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 25, 2009 In Singapore it is relatively free in the city but if you are going around the outskirts like the Zoo or botanical gardens then use repellant. In Malaysia mosquitoes are all over the place and it rains every day mainly in the evenings for about an hour or so. Repellant is a must. The mosquitoes there carry Dengue Fever which is even worst than Malaria.
