You should have a certified copy of his birth certificate (it should have a raised seal). The plastic card or copies are not acceptable.

You need to contact the city or county in which he was born. If it is nearby I would go in person because by mail it may take several weeks.

If you live near your city/county department of Vital Records, you may be able to go there in person and get the certified copy on the same day. I just did that for my son's birth certificate. I just had to show my ID, and fill out an application. They also charged a fee which was under $20 and payable in cash or check.

Good luck!

Thanks to ALL....I love this board...always know I can depend on you guys....thanks alot.

I just spoke to my sister and she is heading to city hall at lunchtime to pick up the certf. raised seal BC, they knew actually what she was talking about and questione if she was leaving the country, there is a $15 fee. I am so upset that my TA did not even mention this to me...all she said was he needs his BC so we thought the plastic would be fine.

Thank goodness I thought of asking....oh boy stressing out.....I soo need a vac.....thanks you guys..

One more question does this also apply to an adult who has the plastic BC or can she use that as well as her Drivers License??

Everyone will need either Passports -OR- Certified birth certificates. Some states may not have a raised seal on the certificate and may have a special watermark instead. Just be sure it is CERTIFIED. Anyone over 16 will need photo ID. Check with your TA on your ports of call to be sure that you don't need passports as some ports of call require them.

Thanks....

My sister spoke to the woman at City hall and she said what she needs to leave the country would be a certified copy with raised seal bc and she could come today and get one done for $15.

My sister in law just called and they told her she would be able to leave but would not be able to be allowed back in with the plastic BC card. I can't beleive all this for traveling...gee I can imagine what non-citizens have to go through....

She is going to pick up a certified BC copy with raised seal herself....I had no idea and thank goodness I thought of this today....

Oh Goodness now I can't wait for this cruise more then ever.....THANKS AGAIN.......

My daughter has a card type BC from SC that is her certified birth certificate. It is raised, but you would never know it through the plastic. We have never had a problem with her certificate while cruising.
