Norwegian's Smoking Policy??

Can anyone tell me what the smoking policy is on Norwegian? Are you allowed to smoke in the cabins? Or only on balconys? Or only in certain places on the ship? I just returned from a cruise on Carnival Valor and the smoking policy in and around the casino was a little silly. There was a long line of tables and seats going down the side of the casino - BUT they were all non-smoking. There was a bar at the end of the Casino BUT half of it was non-smoking. Of course the smoke was everywhere. I am a smoker and enjoy going to the casino after dinner, enjoying a cigarette and then playing the slots - but not on this last cruise.

Thanks for the info. Linda

You can smoke in your cabin and on your balcony. Smoking is allowed in the casino and the cigar bar but you cannot smoke in any restaurant or public venue such as the Stardust Lounge. Smoking on deck is limited (I believe) to one side of the ship.

We are smokers as well and we find their policy to be very liberal. We don't smoke by choice in our cabin but do smoke on our balcony. We had the cabin steward get us one of the ashtrays they use on deck since they are better designed for outdoor use.

I agree with the last poster, NCL policy is quite liberal. No problems smoking in the casino, on balconies & certain areas on deck. On deck 7(promenade deck) there are ashtrays conveniently at the doors & there is one side of the outdoor cafe set up with ashtrays on the tables. So, no problem except for the non-smokers who will complain you shouldn't be able to smoke.....oh this is going to draw some comments!

To the OP, Don't book Celebrity, they have the most sensible non smoking policy no smoking in cabins, balconies casino and most other places, they do have a couple of smoking areas reserved.

That is MY idea of a cruiseline smoking policy.

But since you ask about NCL they still have the antiquated pro smoking policy.

as i sit in my favorite cigar shop, i think that NCL has a very good smoking policy.

I dont smoke in my cabin, but I do on the balcony. I agree that all dining rooms, bars, etc inside the ship should be smoke free. I am glad the casino allows smoking. The way it used to be!

I would prefer you keep the smoke to yourself. It is always iffy that we will get to use the balcony that we paid for.

I know that it is getting more and more difficult to smoke outside of your home and car. Enjoy it while you can--Your days are numbered. We were pleasantly surprised to find this summer that much of Europe was moving to California type smoking restrictions.

The OP asked a question about the smoking policy. Why does this have to turn into a smoker vs non smoker debate? Most of us who smoke know how bad it is and know how offensive it is. We adhere to whatever regulations are in effect. I started smoking in the 70's when it was not as well known how bad it was. I've tried to quit, I can't. Sorry. I know there are new medications out there, my doctor won't prescribe them to me because I have a lot of adverse reactions to medications and these are known to have many side effects.

If I'm smoking on my balcony and someone asks me nicely to refrain, I will. I believe we can work something out. But if someone stands out there and makes rude remarks and coughing sounds, I will think twice about refraining.

As a former smoker I fully understand your right to spoke in accordance with the policies established by the cruiselines. Not to add fuel to the fire, but why should non-smokers be subjected to the massive amounts of smoke in the casino. Considering many of the people smoking in the casino aren't even gambling. They are merely taking advantage of one of the few remaining indoor venues. Why not have several "non-smoking" nights in the casino? Some of the other cruise lines has been featuring this option. For example on a 7 night cruise if there were two non-smoking nights and 5 smoking nights it would be fair to those who love to gamble, but cannot or do not want to be exposed to second hand smoke.

Understanding that you're not supposed to post WEB sights here, but here's the best informative location I've found on explaining smoking policies for most all the cruise lines. http://*****.com/smoking_policies.cfm

I agree with Harleycat's comment: "If I'm smoking on my balcony and someone asks me nicely to refrain, I will. I believe we can work something out. But if someone stands out there and makes rude remarks and coughing sounds, I will think twice about refraining." Some folks smoke and others don't. From observation, most all smokers are courteous to those that don't smoke when asked if they'd refrain from smoking. However, when confronted with immature gestures and attacks, what does one really expect in return?

I've been yelling for them to give smokers just one of the indoor bars since the policies changed. Being limited to the Casino and (not a very comfortable bar) and a cigar bar (if the ship has one) of course the Casino is gong to be crowded with smokers.. The weather isn't always conductive to a comfortable condition on deck.

I smoke and I smoke only in areas where it is designated as OK for me to do so. I would love just one bar where I could sit and enjoy a cigarette with a drink. I don't need entertainment in there, just a place to have a drink inside and enjoy my smoke. Currently I don't drink much on a cruiise, nor does my husband, but if there was somewhere we could we would each purchase 2 or 3 drinks per evening. Until then we will go back to the cabin and drink coffee.

I also agree that if I am asked politely to not smoke on my balcony I will go inside to do so but silly comments made loud enough for me to hear but not to my face and silly, fake coughing fits will very quickly turn me into a chain smoker. I am a very reasonable person when treated in a reasonable manner but can get equally as childish if people behave in a childish way towards me.

Most of the ship is non smoking and some areas are shared. A little tolerance on both sides would serve everyone better.

I don't smoke and I don't like it. But if I choose to cruise NCL then I expect to encounter some smoking. As long as smokers are allowed to smoke and do in those areas they are entitled. They should not be made to feel like second-class citizens if they are smoking within the rules.

Wish NCL would make a non-smoking sectionin the casino (like X Summit had) or offer a few non-smoking nights. Either way would be a nice compromise.

Most NCL ships have slots machine in non-smoking areas. Ships with Bliss have them in there. The Dawn has some machines in Spinnaker. I remember an electronic Roulette table in Spinnaker on the Jewel some years ago.
