pappy3393 Posted December 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2009 Trying to decide which cruise to take. The itineraries are the same, just in opposite directions. The first starts in Montreal and ends in New York. The 2nd starts in NY and ends in Montreal. What are the pros and cons of going on the earlier vs. later cruise in terms of weather, fall foliage, and other factors. Thanks so much in advance for your feedback. alabama ghost Posted December 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2009 We went this year on a 10 day from New York to Quebec leaving NYC on 10/13. It was cold the whole time--I think NYC was a high of 52 and the temps just kept going down until we got to Quebec where there was 5-6" of snow and a temperature of about 32F. The foliage in Bar Harbor was the best for us, and I'm sure you would be giving up some of that if you went in September However, the trip overall would have been much more enjoyable if it hadn't been so cold. Cold or not, it was still a wonderful trip. Enjoy!
Ephraim Posted December 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2009 It's December in Montreal and other than a few hours, we haven't really seen snow, yet. The question is what you want to see and do on the trip. The earlier in the season in Montreal the harder it is to get a room at a good hotel or B&B. Also, take into consideration Canadian Thanksgiving, which is the 11th of October.
maryann ns Posted December 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2009 For fall colours the Oct. sailing would be good. The weather can vary so much from year to year and week to week that there is no safe predicting it.
trophy_23 Posted December 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2009 We were on the Eurodam 14day (Sept 26) Reposition from Quebec City to Ft Lauderdale. The first day in Quebec was beautiful and sunny, then it rained the second day and for the next couple days until the afternoon in Gaspe. After that it was pretty nice in all of the ports all the way to Ft. Lauderdale where it was 95degrees and very humid. The colors were great at that time of year. A week later may have bee a bit more colorful, but the weather may not have been so good. Who knows its always unpredictable.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 11, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2009 I would recommend beginning the cruise in Montreal; not only for the dates but we found that if your cruise ends in Montreal that flights are very limited relateive to New York so you could have a long day at that airport.
