blueeyes2403 Posted December 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Sailing on the Ruby Princess in Febuary, would be interesting to know if princess do a wine voucher, we purchased the soda card this year on the Emerald and brought a bottle of wine each evening at dinner, however was wandering if there was a cheaper way to purchase wine on board. Costa cruises do this where they sell you a package for the cruise which gives you a bottle of wine every night and also a bottle of either still or sparkling mineral water. Does anyone know wheather Princess do similar??
Toto2Kansas Posted December 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2009 You can pre-order wine for consumption onboard, but it won't save you any money, as they will be the same price as you will find when you arrive. Princess has one small wine package, that I remember, but it is more like 3 bottles of expensive wine (you can purchase this onboard), but no real savings that I saw. Other than that, they don't offer any package where you would get what Celebrity seems to offer. Sorry!
paul929207 Posted December 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Like Toto said the only wine package is for some of their higher priced wines. If that is what you drink, that may be the way to go. If you drink the lower priced wines, the package will cost more.
SnoBirdCruiser Posted December 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Does anyone have a wine list for the Princess Star? Are the wines good ones or are they mostly "plonk/wine carton" types? We especially enjoy Conundrum, a California white wine and hope they carry it.
mcnuss Posted December 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Here is a link to the wine list. It may not be the most up-to-date. It's a nice list overall, especially given the wide range of people they need to please. http://www.princess.com/learn/onboard/dining/menus/specialty_restaurant/Wine%20List%20Regular%20v.3.0.pdf When we cruised DCL a few years ago, we bought the wine package and it saved us a few dollars and made things easy, but we understand Princess does not do that. On the other hand, Princess allows you to bring your own wine, so if you love your Conundrum, you can bring it aboard. I believe the corkage is $15 if you want it stored and available in the dining rooms. We are planning on bringing a case on board - some to keep in our room and a few special bottles that are worth paying the corkage fee to have available at meals. My dad is a local and he is going to get it for us at Total Wine, which we understand is quite near the port. http://www.totalwine.com/
Colo Cruiser Posted December 6, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I agree no money savings to speak of and no voucher special.
gertz Posted December 6, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2009 You might bring a couple of bottels on.
caber Posted December 6, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I pre-ordered some wine through Princess UK before our last cruise. The price difference wasn`t much but we paid in pounds on our credit card before the cruise. It helped with the final bill.
captainron Posted December 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted December 7, 2009 Sailing on the Ruby Princess in Febuary, would be interesting to know if princess do a wine voucher, we purchased the soda card this year on the Emerald and brought a bottle of wine each evening at dinner, however was wandering if there was a cheaper way to purchase wine on board. Costa cruises do this where they sell you a package for the cruise which gives you a bottle of wine every night and also a bottle of either still or sparkling mineral water. Does anyone know wheather Princess do similar?? In response: a. No - Princess has no pre-order wine pkgs allowing a bottle per dinner sitting; b. You wouldn't need to buy a bottle of still water as the water on the ship is perfect for consumption at dinner or any other meal for that matter; c. Princess does not carry crappy "Plonk wines" as you put it; d. You'd be in a real conundrum if you didn't bring your own. Just did 30 days on Star and the name does not ring a bell as one of Javier's (Ship's sommelier) listed wines on the wine list; and e. Regardless of what the Cruise Answer Book says (one bottle brought onboard) you may under Section 5 of your passage contract bring wine and champagne onboard. Nothing in the Passage Contract restricts the amount of wine and/or champagne you may bring onboard. Hope this helps, and... Ciao for now!!! Ciao for now!!! SnoBirdCruiser Posted December 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted December 7, 2009 Thank you all for the Wine List, It has a very good selection (even if it doesn't carry our Conundrum) and the prices look more than reasonable, so there will be no worries of running out of the "elixir of the gods" at dinner.:)
