Sheraton Old San Juan

Don't know anything about this hotel, but when we sailed on the Destiny last February, we stayed at the Wyndham Old San Juan and it was right across the street from where the Destiny docked, which was very convenient (we were able to walk to/from). Where is the Sheraton Old San Juan located? I'm asking because we booked a cruise last month for next January on the Serenade of the Seas and we are looking for a hotel close to that pier. We would stay at the Wyndham again in a heartbeat, but wonder about the distance to the pier. A TA that we talked to told us that cab drivers in San Juan are unpredictable and for us not to count on taking a cab from the hotel to the pier - anyone heard this before or had any bad experiences? The TA told us our best bet was to arrange everything (airfare, hotels, transfers) through the cruise line in order to make sure we get where we need to be on time, but the airfare is insanely high and I'm sure the hotels are more expensive as well that what we can do on our own. Thanks!

As I understand, the Wyndham is NOW the Sheraton. So, I guess I'm asking about the hotel you stayed in. I've read some mixed reviews on this hotel and just wondered what others thought.

Thanks for any information you can give me!

Wow, I didn't realize that they changed hands! VERY glad to know that - thank you! I would have driven myself crazy looking for something that wasn't "there" anymore. lol We really enjoyed our stay there and really didn't run into any problems. It took no time whatsoever to get to the hotel once we left the ship, so we actually arrived well before check-in. The hotel was still crowded with people who were checking-out and waiting to leave. However, they stored our bags for us and we were free to do whatever we wanted . . . we checked back with them periodically and finally were able to get into our room (about 2 hours before scheduled check-in time) and were pleased to find that they had actually upgraded our room and had given us 2 vouchers for breakfast the next morning (I *think* they were valued around $17 each). It rained during the day while we were there, so we didn't get to do too much, but we still enjoyed it. Senor Frogs was within walking distance and we had a good time there. The casino in the hotel was nice, not as big as we had been expecting, but nice. The hotel itself was very clean and had a great atmosphere. I'm sure not everyone who has stayed there enjoyed it as much as we did - certainly it wasn't the Ritz or anything, but was very appealing and certainly more than served our purpose.

The Sheraton bought out that particular Wyndham property this past year. It is called the Sheraton Old San Juan now. It is still the same place, located directly across from the cruise pier. My wife and I will be staying there for a pre cruise stay for two nights in April before we set sail on the Golden Princess. We really like it and the convenience is well worth it.
