Ultimate Cruise/Travel Songs!

Can you guys give me some ideas for cruise/vacation songs to put on a cd?

I saw a thread about this previously, but I am not having any luck finding it now. I am trying to convince my husband to agree to booking another cruise and I figured I would make a cd for him with songs to put him in the cruising mood!

Thanks & cross your fingers for me that it will work! I need a cruise to plan for before I start going crazy!

Congratulations to MrBill....for being the first to spell Jimmy's name right!

Buffet is what you find in the Horizon Court.

Buffett is Jimmy, as in great musician. :-)

Anyway, I agree on all things BUFFETT for cruise music.

Try:

BOAT DRINKS

Tryin' to Reason with the Hurricane Season

Lone Palm

Cheesburger in Paradise

Others:

Steel drum bands or Sosa music, reggae:

Dollar Wine (cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, dollar!)

Swingin' Engine

Bob Marley too!

Great cruising song is "Southern Cross" by Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Also I am particular for "Homeward Sailor" by Loggins and Messina (gee, I am showing my age), "A Pirate Looks at 40" by Jimmy Buffet and any old Harry Belafonte calypso song.............Day O!

Hope you get that cruise.

Any of the previous mentioned songs would have been terrific to listen to on our sailaway on the Star on 1/2/05. Instead, we got canned music over the PA system..............YMCA and the Macarena...............yuck, I thought I was at a Bar Mitzvah.

Princess needs to put more effort into the sailaway, other than just trying to sell rum punches. Oh for the days of the Love Boat theme...........beats the Village People. Gimme Buffet over the cowboy and police guy!

"Buffalo Soldier", Bob Marley (If I have to choose one... any of his more uplifting song will do)

"Tequila!"

"Kokomo" The Beach Boys

"Margaritaville" Jimmy Buffet

"Sye Bwa" and "Zouk la se sel medikamen" Kassav' (Creole group from Martinique and Guadeloupe)

"No Money, No Love" and "Dan Is The Man (In The Van)" Mighty Sparrow (a legendary artist from Trinidad)

The steeldrum melodies played by Deep Blue... I don't know the titles.. damn!

"Hot! Hot! Hot!" Buster Poindexter even if starts to get on my nerves after a while.

"Me Gusta tu" Manu Chao

"Canzon de Mariachi" sung by Antonio Banderas with Los Lobos.

"Come Sail Away" Styx

"Guantanamera" by Celia Cruz

Anything by Buena Vista Social Club

"Tropicalia" Beck

"Essa Moça Ta Differente" by Flavio Faria (Brazilian song, was used by a drink commercial and hit it BIG in Europe, you have to find that song. It's just pure beach feeling)

"La Lune Opale" and "Samba de mon coeur qui bat" Coralie Clement (a French singer who listened to too much Brazilian Music).

"Carnaval de Sao Vicente" Cesaria Evora

"La baie" Etienne Daho (another french artist)

"The Girl From Ipanema" Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto

"Tamure Tahiti" Never knew the name of the group who performed it.

"Tahiti, Tahiti" Na Waiho'Olu'u O Ke Anuenue (love it)

"Tiare Oe No Tahiti" Kapena

"Isa Lei" It's the Fijian farewell song. Never knew who sung it. It' beautiful.

"Jisas Yu Hand Blong Mi" - "God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi" - Choir of All Saints. It's a choir from the Solomon Islands and they are religious songs. It's a typical Melanesian choral-style of singing. Not that it would put you in a mood to party but it is so beautiful and so evocative of the South Pacific islands.

"Maldon" Zouk Machine

"Conga" Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine

"Viaje Feliz" Buscemi

"Rapunzel" Daniella Mercury

"Carnival de Sao Vicente" Cesaria Evora

"Island In the Sun" Weezer

And of course: the "Love Boat" song!

And I found a thread about it (I just copied my posts with some add-ons): http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=36748&highlight=tahiti

I heard a great song yesterday called Some Beach. It is a country song but it diffently puts you into the cruising mood. Don't forget Jimmy Buffetts It's Five O'Clock Somewhere! Also my mom got a great cd from Grand Cayman by the Barefoot Men (or maybe it was Barefoot Man. I can't remember). They have two of the greatest cruising songs on that cd: a song about a lady who doesn't want to go home from a cruise and a song called Big Panty Women that just makes me laugh. If I had the Cd with me I would tell you the exact names, but they will diffently get your husband ready for another cruise! Good Luck!

I was thinking of the shows I have seen while cruising and one stuck in my mind.

It is a spoof and starts out - If I were not upon the sea, a place I would rather be----For the life of me I cannot remember all of the words but I keep hearing the jingle in my head and it is driving me crazy. I am thinking because I have seen this done on more then one ship that someone will have the words and post, or direct me to somewhere on the web, where I can get the complete

jingle.

And how about the real oldies:

Red Sails in the Sunset

and

Slow Boat to China :

Does anyone but me remember these???? I remember them by Dick Haymes, but I'm sure others probably did them too.

The Sloop John B HAS been recorded by many............guess I heard it the first time by Harry Belafonte............and then, by the Kingston Trio..........and the Beach Boys............. :)

Islands in the Stream - Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton???

We did the same for our last cruise.....

Melissa gave some great ones.

Mexico......but by Buffett

I love this Bar.......

Time to say goodbye .....Andrea Bocelli

The Jack Jones version of the Love Boat Theme

I will look to see what else we had. We had 4-5 couples around the 6-8 of us at sail away in San Juan, we were all around my portable system. Even the cocktail waitresses thought is was SO cool that we did this!
