tinker Posted December 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2009 We are new to HAL and on the Veendam to Bermuda in October. I am interested in the pool areas. Is the Lido Pool the main pool and it appears to be covered from the pictures on the HAL website? Also, what is The Retreat area?
Mary Ellen Posted December 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2009 The mid-ships pool has a cover that can be retracted if the weather permits. The Retreat is where the aft pool was. It is now a 'splash' area. Nothing to swim in there.

tinker Posted December 28, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Great pics of the pool area. Thank you. Interesting concept with the lounges in the water. What is the point really?
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 28, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Truely I do not know!! I, for one, do not like this new area and have nodesire to sail on a ship that has this new concept. Maybe in a few hundred years I will change my mind.
wander Posted December 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Regarding the question "What is the point of the chairs. One would need to ask the several dozen people who use them every nice day on a recent cruise around South America why they chose it over the inner real pool. With the exception of one nice afternoon, there were about 3 times as many people using the retreat area, both in the chairs in the inner pool, the outer pool and the deck chairs around the pool. There were even people sitting right in the water a number of really nice days. Then the chairs and tables for eating were very busy, even on cooler days. On this cruise for nice days the lido pool and deck chairs there were basically not used. If there were 2 people in the pool that was alot, except one day I did count 6 in the covered pool at once. For cold days, it was much busier. I personally did not use either pool on this cruise (unusual for me), but I did spend many, many hours sitting around the Retreat area and only one lunch near the coverable pool.
