Port Or Starboard

It would be easy to say portside for European ports and starboard for African when travelling eastwards, and opposite when coming back, but that would annoy you even more. But for what it's worth I get the impression that most docking is done port alongside. However with most of the docks I have seen you would be better to be on the sea side. Most are not lovely locations.

Thanks david,

I always assumed that the port side was exactly that, that you docked along side the port. However, on our cruise to the Baltics we were on the starboard side which seemed to favour the quayside most. Perhaps I shouldn't be so nosy, I just like to look at everything going on.

Still don't know what you mean but I'm sure you are going to tell me.
Ah, but I did say it wasn't going to be a serious answer. From Chitty Chitty Bang Bang:-
Port out, starboard home, posh with a capital P-O-S-H

P-O-S-H, P-O-S-H...
