BILNAN Posted May 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Hello Hess2201 I am glad you had a great trip and I am sorry to hear about the weather. There are just somethings we have no control over. I was just wondering what did you think of the food on the ship. A couple of other guest have posted that it really was not up to par. I am just curious. hess2201 Posted May 22, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 22, 2004 The food was ok. It was better than princess, and i liked the selections better than HAL. It you want to eat GOOD food, cruise Celebrity. We had good service, both in the dining room and the windjammer. they need to fix the coffie situation. Its not seattle's "best". shamda Posted May 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2004 I thought the food was terrible. Not what I expected. We did princess 2 years ago and it was much better. Because we were only on 5 day cruise, we did not get lobster tails. We also got turned away from the dining room on the first night and were told we could only get the main course only. The dining room gets a zero from me. The only good thing about the dining room was our table mates. It made the trip! Voyager to Canada

MonaCK Posted May 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2004 From what I understand, the first night of the cruise (Sunday) the dining room isn't open... isn't that correct?
PaulaW Posted May 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 22, 2004 The dining room was open on Sunday as an open seating. We got there about 6 pm and had no problems. It was probably one of the better meals we had. But, when we left, there was a huge line waiting outside. I'm not really sure why they were not letting people in. Perhaps every seat was full? Shamda, sorry about your experience. I guess we were lucky maybe because we got there early? shamda Posted May 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2004 We went to the dining room on sunday around 7. There was a line that went on forever. I call them disney world lines. When we finally got to the front of the line we were told to either come back at 8:30 to eat or be served the main course only. No appetizers or desert. I then told him, well thats ok, but rci charged me for a 5 night cruise, but I only was going to pay for 4! We went back at 8:30 and were seated, however the muster drill was at 9:30. The waiter we had was horrible. He was trying to rush to get done by 9:30. He was throwing plates of food at us. Not a good way to start of the trip. PaulaW Posted May 22, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Merion Mom, We were allowed on board by about noon or so. But our situation was unique in that there was no 9 day cruise returning. I understand that the 9 day will not be back until about noon. I would not plan on boarding before 3pm. Debarkation is not very organized! cruise pup Posted May 22, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Did you change to Atlantic time when you were in Canada or did you leave your watches alone and were told to keep to ship's time for departure times in port? karen_cpa Posted May 22, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Hubby and I were also on the 5/16 Voyager. There was just a general - "well, since it's a 5-day, we aren't going to try super-hard" type of attitude that permeated through the ship. we were extremely happy with our room steward and our dining room staff. hard to pinpoint exactly, but lots of little things seemed to be "off": - no lobster on formal night (waiter said it had to be at least a 7-day cruise). I have never heard that before. - Cruise Compass wrong so often hubby and I made a game of it - Docking time wrong on Saint John's by almost two hours. Do not make my husband get up early if he doesn't have to. Not a good thing. When questioned, they said it was a tidal issue. What?? Aren't tides pretty regular? Isn't this something a captain should have a good grasp on?? Put the little things together and it kinda rubs you the wrong way after paying good money. That being said, with the Bayonne port so convenient for us, we will probably try RCCL again. karen_cpa Posted May 22, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Cruisepup - just saw your thread. Yes - you do change your watches the first night and change them back the last night. Be very careful about meeting someone in Saint John - we docked almost two hours lated than was posted. It was a complete mess - all the tours were screwed up, people waiting in stairwells only to be sent back to their room. Carol D Posted May 22, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 22, 2004 We were on the 5/16 Voyager also. I have to agree with Hess -- the coffee was terrible. I spoke to one of the officers at the Platinum party and mentioned it. He said it's the machines and he would look into it. The coffee was different in the dining room, it was good. But elsewhere, terrible. Have tea! Disappointed too that there was no lobster. That's one of my favorite nights. I am writing Royal Caribbean about a few other things too. We had an episode in the dining room at the midnight buffet that was horrendous. We were seated at a table eating and a waiter made us leave saying it was closed. "You have to leave NOW!" he shouted at us! There were no other tables available so we left our food and found a maitre d' who led the waiter out of the room. We later filed a complaint with Guest Relations who promised to get back to us but never did. I felt sorry for the other couple who were cruising for the first time -- they were really upset. And they were staying on the ship for the 9 day Caribbean cruise. Hope they are having a better time now. shamda Posted May 22, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 22, 2004 If any of you that are planning on traveling to NY/NJ for this cruise, beware of the traveling costs of getting to and from the port and beware of a limo company called CARMEL LIMO. We stayed in NY for the weekend before the cruise. They were supposed to pick us up at 11:15 to take us. They didnt show up until 12:45 and then proceeded to throw us out in the street on 42nd street and 11th ave. The driver did not know where the port was and threw us out in the street with all our luggage. By the way, if anyone is interested, to take a cab/limo from the port to lga, the cost is $80 plus tolls and tip. Voyager to Canada
karen_cpa Posted May 22, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 22, 2004 brideoct12 - on Saint John's we did the Covered Bridge bicycle tour. It is listed as "strenous" in the excursion guide (as was the Saint John City Walking Tour ) - that was the understatement of the year!!! It was a 15 mile bicycle tour - quite a few hills, and against the wind most of the time. Still - we had a great time and the Canadian countryside is beautiful (they bus you to Sussex for the tour). Lunch in a little cafe was included, so we thought the price was pretty reasonable. Unfortunately, due to docking problems our tour was only 5 hours instead of 6 - was going to pursue a partial refund, but we decided to let it go. We did everything listed in the tour - I think the only thing cut was a little down time in the cafe after lunch. The guides were fantastic!! Would recommend if you like really, really physical activities! In Halifax we did the Historical Pub tour. Had a blast!!! Was a little pricey - $54 for 3 beers, but the guides made it worthwhile. You follow a bagpiper through Halifax and stop at 3 famous pubs. Enjoyable if you like beer. If not, probably not the best option. We would do again in a heartbeat, but it depends on your personality. By pub #3 everyone was silly and kinda tipsy and singing pubs songs. We loved it but obviously it is not for everyone! brideoct12 Posted May 22, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Karen~ We were planning on doing either the St. John highlights Tour or the Photography Tour while in SJ. Now that you have been there do you think those are good? While in Halifax we were going to do the morning tour of Historical Halifax and the afternoon tour of Peggys Cove. Any thoughts on either of those? The pub tour sound like so much fun but unfortunatly my husband cant drink beer. Something about carbonation and him throwing up immediatly. Hey, that might add to the fun of the tour actually! ha ha ha Its nice too because he cant drink anything with carbonation so we just drink water everywhere we go. Sometimes he slurges on ice tea Voyager 5/30/04 NJ to Canada Zenith 10/19/02 NY to Bermuda(honeymoon)
karen_cpa Posted May 22, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 22, 2004 brideoct12 - I do not know much about those tours, unfortunately. I do remember a few people mentioning that Peggy's Cove is very, very foggy in the morning, so that is better suited for an afternoon excursion. Every excursion sounded good - I don't recall hearing any major complaints. Hopefully someone who was on one of those tours can jump in. Pistachio42 Posted May 22, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 22, 2004 I didn't like hearing that there will be no lobster tails and given the lame excuse that only on 7-night or long cruises. Just got back from a 4-night Carnival cruises and we had good sized lobster tails on formal night and you could have 2 or 3 if you wanted. Come on RCCL .. don't keep letting us down.
