Emailed Allegro in Nuevo Vallarta (about$15 cab ride from ship), got this reply. I have not been to this resort, but it has OK reviews on tripadvisor, and looks to have a nice beach. For the price we (wife, I, and 9, 11 year old boys) are going to give it a try on Feb 17 (off splendor).

Thank you for contacting Occidental Hotels & Resorts.

Currently our resort does offer day passes. The day pass for the Allegro Nuevo Vallarta is $35.00 per adult and $17.50 per child. The day passes are valid from 8:00am until 6:00pm. These day passes include access to all the amenities at the resort and lunch at the buffet. If you should have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-858-2258. I want to thank you for choosing Occidental Hotels & Resorts

The El Cid in Mazatlan sounds like a great AI option. How do you book a day pass for $35pp? I called and they said it was $75, a bit higher than $35. Any other reasonably priced AI options in Mazatlan?

Thanks!

I emailed El Cid yesterdayand asked for a quote for an all day pass, haven't heard from them yet. $75pp is a little steep.

I sent El Cid an email- will post results when they reply. I read on another post that it is a timeshare and the only way to get in free is to sit thru a timeshare presentation. I have done it twice in 20 yrs, regretted it both times, felt they were too pushy. And I didn't buy so they were a bit rude. So, I'd rather pay , if it's reasonable.

Where did you book this for $35?

Sorry for the late reply.

I booked mine through Mazatlan Tours. I would not recommend using this company.Quick story:

I emailed the company a week before our trip to confirm where to meet our guide to get on the catamaran and go to the island. They said to meet in the terminal under the umbrellas and they would have a sign. We were off the ship and to the terminal by 9:30 and nobody was there to greet us. We walked around and asked several of the vendors where to find them and got directed to a bunch of different places. We finally headed back out the front of the terminal to go back to the ship and the guy was just arriving - it was just before 10am.

We got on the catamaran, got to the island and took the tractor ride to the restaurant where we put in our lunch orders and they opened the bar. The time advertised on the website was 5 hours for the length of the excursion. We had lunch and then walked down the beach to Lettys where my parents were to visit with them. About 1:30 we started to head back to our restaurant to catch the boat back to the mainland - 90 mins to spare...or so we thought. Got back and the owner or whoever said the boat left and that we'd have to pay to take a water taxi back!:confused: 10am-1:30 pm, you can do the math. So we walked down the beach and up the little hill and caught a water taxi back ($1 one way, no big deal) and we were right behind our catamaran the entire way. Still not sure why they cut the excursion short.

I was just wondering if you liked this resort after all or not. Trying to book something for Puerta or Nueva Vallarta.

Oh, Oh, my bad . . . sorry. :o Ouch is right!! This one works:

www.nh-hotels.com/NHPuertoVallarta

This doesn't work either. It goes to a webpage that you can click PV and gives an email of nhpuertovallarta@nh-hotels.com , when you try to send a message to that , it says ?missing or moved recipient. I had found that exact email on their page 3 days ago and the same thing, won't go thru.:confused::confused: LSS

Our family went to El Morro a few weeks ago...the rates are correct for the El Morro, is what they don't mention is there is a small use fee for El Cid Castilla Ranch as well. I believe it was around $12, 2 kids and 2 adults. No big deal and was well worth it. Just a heads up.:D

First of all, be very clear: the Ell Cid is a Timeshare resort. This isn't a secret but make no mistake the TS pressure is there from the moment you step into the terminal in Mazatlan. I saw the nice display and went up to the man, told him what we wanted (NO PRESENTATION, JUST TAKE MY MONEY!!!) I probably had to tell him that 6 times before we were done.

There is no shuttle provided. They used to have one but no more since the taxi drivers were not happy with that arrangement. A taxi (up to 4 people max) is US12$. That is for the taxi and is not pp. If you elect to put up with the TS presentation then your taxi is paid both ways.

So, we're at the resort and have paid our $36 (not $35) admission.

The pool area is nice enough. There are 2 large pools to choose from, not a lot of umbrellas available. We went to the beach which was OK but far from nice. There are a limited number of shay areas there as well, we were lucky to get one. The day we were there the seas looked calm enough but the red flag was up indicating dangerous swimming conditions. I don't know how common that is. The water is not very nice. The waves were brown in color.

The beach vendors are supposed to stay back from the guests separated by a rope but this is not really enforced by anyone. The vendors are not aggressive but the sheer number of them is overwhelming. It is NON STOP.

Drinks: Your $36 does NOT get you bottled beer. It is draft beer. You might like it, I didn't, it gave me one of the worse headaches I've ever had. The mixed drinks that my wife had were so so. I asked for drinking water at the bar fully expecting to get a small sealed plastic bottle. Nope, the guy poured my a glass out of a plastic gallon jug that had no markings on it. I took the glass and dumped it on the beach. Later on, a beach waiter brought me a bottle after I specifically asked for one. He had an expression on his face that suggested he was not supposed to be giving those out.

Food: They have a very nice looking outdoor restaurant area overlooking the beach but when you get to the actual buffet it is quite lame. I ended up with a hamburger.

Other: I had brought my netbook figuring that WiFi would be available. It was but apparently the $72 that we paid was not enough, they needed another 80 pesos.

Summary: After transport and admission we were out just under $100 for a trip to a mediocre beach that was inundated with local vendors, had a few glasses of crappy draft beer and a hamburger. Surely there's a better way to spend that money.

If you must go, you need to get there early to secure a good spot. If you have the stomach for it and are willing to give up an hour of your life, you might consider saving $100 by enduring the TS presentation.

For myself, I'll be staying on the ship next time.

LS..

Yes, they make frozen Margaritas and yes there was salad at the buffet. I don't really remember what else there was to eat as the burger was the only thing that I came close to wanting. I did spot some kind of daily shrimp special later but it's almost like they were hiding it :o
