Disembarkation in Valparaiso, Chile

Hi:

 

Has anyone carried their luggage off the ship in Valparaiso, Chile rather than leaving it outside your door the night before? I have heard horror stories about the terminal in Valparaiso and that anyone can walk into the terminal and walk off with your luggage. Since this port has a shuttle bus from the ship to the terminal I am worried that we won't be able to take our own luggage off the ship. Any help would be appreciated.

When we were on the Sun in November they did not have the express walk off. I suppose you could walk off with it, not sure where they would put it on the shuttle. Don't know what ship you are on, but it's quite a distance from the dock to the terminal.

You may have read that you can't take any food off the ship when you dock in Valpo. Believe it!.. Take nothing. They have a dog sniff your checked and hand luggage at the terminal. Could be subject to a stiff fine.

That wasn't a option when I was on the Sun. Also when you got to the cruise terminal you had to line up with your personal carry on type item and line them up so a dog could sniff them first, then you could collect your bag.
