Who is your favorite NCL Maitre d' ?????

Roman, is by far our choice. We were fortunate to sail with him on the Spirit in 2008. He was our Maitre d' at Cagney's. We enjoyed dinner there the first night of the cruise. After that, no matter where we ran into Roman, for the rest of the cruise he always was the same gentlemen and greeted us by name. It was our pleasure to see him almost every morning at the buffet making sure things were running smoothly. He would take my wife's plate to the table for her, pull out her chair and make sure our coffee was always fresh. He made our cruise extra special.

Which ship is Roman on now?

We loved Jorge on the Dawn! On our last night he and our favorite waiter, Jamaica Keith, gave me a big hug and it felt like we were leaving our family aboard. Those 2 will always stand out for me. I hope that we run into both of them again one of these days.

Totally agree about Roman, he is outstanding. He is on the Gem now but leaves to go home the end of this month.

Thanks for info on Roman. I would consider booking the Gem just to enjoy his service once again. What a pro. My wife wanted to take him home with us.:D I should say, with her, but they wouldn't let me take his place on board.:(

We have two men who were very near and dear to our hearts for their love of what they do and how they cared for us:

Willy Constantanicu from the Sun on our cruise to Alaska. My wife has a gluten intolerance and Willy was so knowledgable and just so wonderful: even making cookies for her to take on our excursion the next day where he knew there would be nothing for her to eat.

Wilson Souza from the Spirit on our cruise to the Western Caribbean out of New Orleans. Wilson, like his friend Willy, was also wonderful! He was also caring for the diet of my mom's beau. He remembered everything - always! A funny story about Wilson. I rarely ate dessert. When he would come to me I would say "Nothing, WIlson." One night, as he was serving dessert, here he came to my place with a plate that on it, written in chocolate, was written "No Thing."

By the way, we also rarely eat in the specialty restaurants. These gentlemen were in the main dining rooms.

I have to be honest. I could not tell you the name of one Maitre D' from any of our cruises.

We have never had to deal with one, so no one sticks in my mind as memorable.

With Jorge, it wasn't a 'have to', it was a 'get to'.

Dhuri in Le Bistro--on the Gem when we met, and Anil in Bamboo on the Dawn--both real pros--and mention should be made of Prince Charles in Le Bistro on the Dawn--much more than a waiter !!!

Dhuri was the maitre d' in Cagney's on Gem. Great guy and he really ran a good operation. He's just gone on vacation and will go on the Pearl next.

I think you're referring to Anil Nair who was on the Dawn quite awhile. We met him next on the Pearl and last year he was again on the Dawn. He's really a wonderful host.

Met Roman (above mentioned) in Magenta on the Gem TA. One night he escorted me all the way down to Le Bistro. In Magenta he told me the chef recommendations and basically picked my meal.

Many other wonderful ones out there, too - Sanja on Gem, Laura B., Luiza on Gem, Melania on Jade last summer, Ana Maria currently in Le Bistro on Gem....too many to mention. These are people who are passionate about their jobs, love to interact with guests, get things done and have the respect of the rest of the team.

Melania was on the Jade?? She is wonderful--thought she had left NCL--so glad to know she is back. She was maitre'd in the Tex Mex--Tango's? on the Gem when we met. Thanks for the post.

Without question our favorite Maitre D' is Laura Borut. We've cruised with her on several cruises, including the Dawn, Jewel and Gem. She certainly fits Barb's description, and can vouch for her passion, desire to interact, and to get things done.

We met this lovely young lady on the Dawn when she was an Assistant Maitre' D in Salsa, and one of our dinners was served lukewarm. My brother wasn't going to say anything, but since Laura's style is to make the rounds, she came by and asked how everything was and immediately served him a new dinner. She had already come by our table for introductions after we were seated, but she sincerely wants to make sure you receive the exceptional service you deserve.

Of course we recognized her on our next cruise, where she was then working in Cagney's, as well as other locations on other shifts. We now look for her on every cruise, and last saw her on the Gem. On that one my wife had a bout with sea sickness on our last leg of the cruise, and though she was feeling better for our last dinner, she had a little relapse when it came time to order. Well, Laura did everything possible to ease her through the process, bringing ginger ale, green apples, baked potatoes (2), etc., and at the same time allowed me to feel comfortable enough to enjoy a nice steak dinner. We left with some other goodies she had packed. She's a "doll", and one of our favorite NCL employees.

Our favorite is Sanja. We first met Sanja on the Star when she was a server in Cagneys. She has been on the Pearl, Gem and now will be on the Epic. Can't wait to see her in June!

Tom, we also enjoy Laura when Sanja hasn't been available.

We loved Oslyn Brown in Il Adagio (Suite venue for breakfast and lunch) on the Sun. What a cool guy and the nicest smile I have ever seen. He loves his job and the passengers.

Filled out the STYLE card and gave him an extra tip.

Also Mr. Glaspole in Azura on the Jewel was excellent too. He diffused a really bad situation we had in his dining room. He handled himself with class and finesse that I have never seen equalled in all my life. What a gentleman.

These two NCL staffers are valuable assets to the Company.

Although it has been four years, my favorite Maitre'd was a guy named Sonny on the Dawn. When we were on the Dawn, he was in Cagney's but cruisers since that time report he moved to LeBistro.

We met Sonny the first night and he MADE our cruise! Very personable and friendly. We had a larger group and were discussing which nights to eat where and he called and made reservations for us for almost the whole week, including the main dining rooms.

My mother has severe food limitations due to not being able to eat any types of seasonings and he called the maitre'd in the main dining room and told him when we would be coming and my mothers problem. The next evening, our table was waiting and my mom's food was perfect. (for one of the first times ever on NCL!) It was like that the whole week.

One day while we were in Great Stirrup Cay, my parents remained on the ship and went to the buffet to eat lunch. Sonny was working there that day. When my mother couldn't find anything that she could eat on the buffet, Sonny took her order and went back and had the cook prepare a plain cheesburger and potatoes for her. He also found some other food that she could eat. He personally delivered them to her.

On our last night on board, my father and I became sick and decided not to join the rest of the group in Cagney's for dinner. (arranged by Sonny...lol). When Sonny heard of our illness, he proclaimed that we had to eat something and called our cabins to ask us what we thought we could keep down. I suggested some toast and Sonny added: "chicken soup is good for illness too." About a half hour later, there was a knock on our doors.... a waiter from Cagney's was out there with trays of Chicken Noodle Soup and toast, along with some 7-up, compliments of Sonny! (two bowls of soup per person and 4 slices of toast per person.)

Others who have cruised the Dawn, have reported similar stories of such personal service from Sonny. Someday, we hope to sail the Dawn again if Sonny is still there!

We are enjoying this thread--remembering many wonderful maitre d's--we DO remember Sonny--he was wonderful--I would love to know if he is still with NCL--we knew him on the Dawn too--he has not been on the Dawn for at least two years...would also love to know where Melania is...after reading on here she was on the Jade this summer...

Just heard that Sanja is now in Tequila on Gem so we'll be seeing her on Sat. since we will be eating there!:D She's been on vacation the last couple of times.

Ericktina, Melania from Romania was running the Mex. restaurant on Gem, you're right. Tomct and his DW had dinner there with us during the football championship playoff game and Melania set up perfect viewing seats for us. I think we ended up staying nearly 5 hrs. She was so great to us. So I was really happy and surprised when we went on the Jade in June and there she was.

DMH15, I did meet an Oslyn on the Gem TA in Dec. so I assume that's your guy from the Sun? He's from Jamaica. He was making the rounds in Grand Pacific.

NCL has a lot of wonderful maitre d' staff for sure!:D

First time to post being a new member. But, not first time cruiser. We have cruised for 10 years, and am a gold Latitudes member. Our favorite is by far, is Harold Plunkett. We have had the pleasure of cruising with him on the Spirit and twice on the Dream. Just a Gem. Once on the Dream, he rememberd us, and had a food basket sent to our cabin. Has a deep singing voice, which he uses in the dining room. We always ask where he is at. In November on the Gem, we were told he is a legend with NCL, and is currently on the Star. We will be on the Jade in two months, and will ask the staff again about the great Mr. Plunkett.

We have taken quite a few cruises, but until the Jan.10-15 trip on the Dawn, we had never had any special interactions with a Maitre d'. On this latest trip, one member of our party had quite a few food sensitivities (developed as part of Lyme Disease). Mr. Anil Nair in the Venetian Room and the Chefs took fabulous care of her dietary needs.

We chose NCL for this cruise because it had the reputation on CC of providing for special diets. Mr. Nair's efforts made it highly likely that we will choose NCL again!
