E.O.S. - need info.. also transportation from Ft. Lauderdale?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have never sailed on Royal Caribbean before, but am looking to book on the Explorer of the Seas on November 7th. Can you guys tell me what you know about this ship? I know it's one of those mega ships with all of the bells and whistles, but let me know your opinions.

Also, if I were to fly into Ft. Lauderdale is there a shuttle that goes to the Port of Miami from there? How far is the port from the Fort Lauderdale airport?

I look forward to hearing your insight. Thanks for the help. ANyone else going on this sailing?

Little-Try NOT to fly into Ft.Lauderdale,it's a pain and expensive to get to the Miami port.Time wise,it's about 30-40 minutes;dollar wise,it must be $40-50.The ship is the 2nd largest in the world at 142,000 tons, only the new Queen Mary 2 is bigger. It is gorgeous and very big-you won't be bored on it-if you are,you might as well never go on another cruise again....RCL can meet you at the Miami airport to transfer you to the ship..don't know if they'll do that in FT.L....Have a great time!

A taxi from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the port in Miami will be about $65. If you go outside the baggage claim area look for the kiosk for Tricounty Limo. They will put you in a Town Car for $55. They also have a share-a-ride progrma thay is $15 per person. Many people say they can fly to Fort Lauderdale for less than Miami so it is worthwhile. In addition, the Fort Lauderdale airport is much less of a hassle since it is much smaller than Miami.

We were on the Explorer last year, and found her to be fantastic. We are booked on her sister ship and cannot wait!

We flew into FLL because airfare was far less expensive. We were a party of 4 adults with lots of luggage, so we would have had to take 2 taxis to Miami. Found that for the same or less than the 2 taxis, we could hire a limo, and all of us could ride together. The added cost of this was still far less than airfare from DEN to MIA. It was a 45 minute drive. So I think it depends on how many are in your group, and how you would like to travel.

Have a great time!

Happy Me!! Adventure of the Seas!

Thanks for the help. Yeah, the airfare into Ft. Lauderdale is a lot cheaper, and Jet Blue - my favorite airline flies from Dulles to St. Lauderdale. You would think that for a ship as big as EOS, they would expect that at least several hundred people would be flying into Ft. Lauderdale - they could have some chartered busses to bring people to the pier ( let alone the other cruise ships leaving out of there). When we sailed out of Port Canaveral, there were charter busses that took people from the Orlando airport to the pier - that was nice and convenient.

From the research that I have been doing, it looks like we would save at least a couple of hundred dollars by flying into FLL in lieu of Miami, so it might just be worth it - plus it is less of a hassle to fly into a smaller airport than a large one.

Also check out Spirit Airlines out of DC, just checked for roundtrip tickets for Oct, for 5 of us it is 743.00. A huge savings compared to Miami. There are charted buses the day you get back to miami that goes to Ft. Lauderdale, 15 per person, (that was before gas shot through the roof) under six is 1/2 price or free can't remember. Good luck!

You can get transfers through the cruise line to and from the port. They are $15/person if they have not gone up lately. Your travel agent should be able to book them for you. I hope this helps!

Hi Littlegoo,

We are also on the Nov. 7th of the Explorer. I have been looking for other cruisers for quite sometime. Have you registered yet for the meet & mingle? If not please join up so we can build up to the minimum needed. There are 4 of us coming from Va. Beach and we are thinking about flying in to Fort Lauderdale also. We will probally purchase transfers through RCCL.My agent told me it was 32.00 for each passenger roundtrip. It seems the easiest way to go. So where are you on the ship? We are "aft cabin sailors" this time deck 7. I look forward to hearing from you.I have a listing on the meet & mingle board for that sailing...Hi-C

We have just booked for the Navigator in September. Does anyone know anything about renting a car from FLL and dropping it off at the Miami pier?

Thanks,

I am not sure but our airfare was the same price flying into Miami as it would have been flying into Ft.Lauderdale. The taxi from Miami was $22.

You will love the EOS. We are already planning going back in Oct 2005.

Was just on the Explorer on the May 9th sailing. We flew out of DC on Spirit to Fort Lauderdale. Got round trip tickets for $116.00. It would of been over $200.00 into Miami and for five, that is a big savings! We made reservations for a shuttle van through http://www.easyexpress.biz/pages/1/ There were nine in our group and it cost $12.00 a person for each way, everything included. They were very dependable and I would use them again. The Explorer is wonderful! Have a great cruise!
