tls630 Posted February 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2010 How long if at all will NCL hold the ship from departing if pax can't get out of the airports up-north? I live in S.W.Florida and I know our airport is backed up bad because of the huge storm up north. What effect does that have on cruise ships? johnql Posted February 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2010 Generally speaking, not at all. However, sometimes a cruise line will hold the ship for a reasonable period if there's a delayed flight with a group of passengers who booked the flight through the cruise line. Passengers who booked flights independently are on their own and, hopefully, have travel insurance. How long the line will hold the ship depends on the anticipated flight delay, whether waiting will disrupt its itinerary, and potential additional fees incurred for overstaying its docking. zqvol Posted February 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2010 If they hold at all it will be because a lot of people that they arranged air for are in the air and on the way. They will certainly not wait more than a few hours. IMO, there are going to be a lot of people missing cruises today and tomorrow. . . . and potential additional fees incurred for overstaying its docking. Generally docking fees are for a 24 hour period. They don't want to stay in port because of lost revenue from the casino, and shops, not because of extra port fees. One of the main reasons why so many people recommend planning on arriving at the departure port city the day before sailing if travelling by air.
