One Way back from London

We are taking a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale and ending up in London in late May. It's easy to get from home (Baltimore) to Ft. Lauderdale, but getting home from London is looking rather pricey, especially since it's one way. We could fly into JFK and drive home if it's a lot cheaper. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

One-ways are always tricky. Do you know what your cruise line would charge you for arranging this? They can often do it cheaper because they may be flying as many people over to London for the next cruise as they fly back from yours.

As a maximum, you shouldn't have to pay more than about $650 for it if you're prepared to be creative, you can be flexible with your dates and you're prepared to act now. This is by doing the (slightly naughty) thing of buying a cheapo cheapo round-trip ticket starting in London, and using only the outbound half. British Airways, for example, is having a sale right now (ends on 25 January) and the lowest round-trip fare to BWI for May works out at £330 including tax. The difficulty is that the end of May is school holiday time in the UK so there are some dates where you may have availability problems.

If you don't tell anyone in advance that you're not planning on using the return half, you're unlikely to get any grief from doing this. As a general rule, the airlines only go after the people who make a regular habit of abusing the fare rules like this.

Check with Aer Lingus it is a Irish Air Line. I just booked one way from Amsterdam over Dublin to Los Angeles one way for 480.00 dollars end of May.

After my transatlantic cruise. Also one way Long Beach to Ft. Lauderdale for $127.50 with Jet Blue.

Globaliser,

We MUST emphathize the start point, over and over. PAX absolutely, positively MUST purchase your ticket from London to the USA and return, NOT the other way around. Saturday, watched a lady argue her head off trying to use a RT LAX/NY ticket. Only problem, she hadn't flown the LAX/NY portion. Was trying to use the return in Kennedy. It really was kind of funny, because she told them EXACTLY what she had done and why she felt justified doing it. I didn't see her on the plane, so guess her very agressive arguments fell on deaf ears.
