Aplmac Posted February 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2010 What are the best sights to see on a taxi tour of Barbados? What's a typical length of time, and price? A fairly typical island tour will run about 4-5 hrs. -maybe 6, if you linger here and there.. Cost? - I have little idea, so no quote there, sorry but most drivers will show you the Lion at Gun Hill and other fun stuff (like Orchid World?) ..before getting to St. John's Parish Church perched on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the East Coast. Sundial in the churchyard! After that it's pretty much the Bathsheba area.. with Andromeda gardens, Tent Bay nearby (think Atlantis Hotel for lunch) -unless you prefer lunch at Round House, in Bathsheba itself? And after that stop, you'll probably make it along the East Coast Road towards Belleplaine and Farley Hill,Grenade Hall and Wildlife Reserve a few miles beyond Belleplaine(-a tiny country town,no big deal). After THAT...it's down to the West Coast and Southward back to the Port! Should keep you busy for awhile? .
martkc Posted February 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2010 A friend and I were on Barbados January 29. We happened upon a wonderful taxi driver in the second bank of taxis waiting at the port (through the gates.) He says he charges $175 for a "full" island tour, lasting about five hours, which of course doesn't cover everything but will give a good overview of the culture and people and places. We had a more modest itinerary in mind (tour of the Washington House and a visit to Mullins Beach). But he also suggested a stop along the way for a lunch at Sandra's food stand for some real Bajan cuisine. Fabulous for $6. The taxi driver is "C.J" and he treated two middle-aged women like honored guests. Really, really a nice man and I asked for his card so I could recommend him to friends. His phone numbers are: (0) (246) 429-9441 or 232-3433. Email: info@cjtours.com.
paintchip8 Posted February 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I really recommend Glory Tours. We just returned from Barbados and had one of the best tours with Sarah the owner. sarah@glorytours.org is the email and http://www.glorytours.org is the web site. Sarah is an attractive, informative, and funny tour guide.
Host Jacquelyn Posted February 10, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks for all the advice! Paintchip8, which tour did you take with Glory Tours? I just booked a separate tour to swim with the turtles, but I see they offer one as well. Does anyone know whether it is any good? What sites did you see on your tour with Glory Tours? The sites Aplmac mentioned seem like must-sees. Also, we will be on the island for a week, so we can do several excursions.
