luv2travel2 Posted May 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I heard from someone today that they were allowed to take booze actually beer on board their Royal Caribbean cruise. They left out of Mexico for their cruise to Hawaii last year. But I have read on these boards that taking booze/beer is not allowed. We will be on the AOS and I would like to get the story straight. Can someone please set me straight on this. Thanks! shand32783 Posted May 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I say bring it. They'll even hold it for you for a week if they don't want you to bring it on. beachchick Posted May 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I can't give you a definitive answer because there isn't one. We've found that it just depends on the ship, the itinerary, the crew, how much you are bringing on, and the mood of those in charge that day. That said, we've NEVER "smuggled" on alcohol. We bring on a few bottles of wine when we first board and a few local beers from ports. We do not try to hide it, but just figure if they take it and hold it, fine. We have not brought hard liquor on when first boarding, but have bought it in ports to take home. Again, no hiding or anything, and we've not had it confiscated yet. However, I know other pax have not been so lucky. Sorry I can't give you the straight answer you had hoped to find. Folgy Posted May 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Save yourself an overweight charge on your suitcase and just purchase at the ships liquor store (room consumption charge added) It still works out to a very good deal. TheAs Posted May 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 25, 2004 On our Serenade cruise we bought pop and alcohol right at the pier before we left. I was nervous before we bought it because I read posts on here explaining elaborate ways people would smuggle goods on board. So I asked a worker who was checking IDs if they would take our stuff if I tried to bring it on board and he said "yes". We tried it anyway. We put the bags right on the conveyor and didn't try to hide anything. No one said a word. Mike&Lorraine Posted May 25, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 25, 2004 We're not planning to bring liquor or beer aboard, but I do want to bring 3 or 4 bottles of wine. If they find it, is there the option of simply paying the corking fee and bringing it aboard? I'm not completely opposed to that either (of course, we'd rather not pay it, but if we have to it's better than them taking it away for the duration of the cruise.) imatarb Posted May 25, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I'm not sure what the policy is on RCCL, but I just went on a Carnival cruise, and I took a few bottles of my favorites, and put them safely in my checked luggage, and they arrived safe and sound at my cabin. Don't see why you can't do that on RCCL, unless they are truly more vigilant in going through every piece of luggage for the smuggled alcohol. Kapeluza Posted May 25, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Back in March when I went on the Navigator we stopped at Freeport. On my way back to the ship from the beach I brought about 30 cans of beer stuffed in my backpack. I ran my bag through the x-ray machine and they didn't say absolutely nothing. I did the same thing in Cozumel and Jamaica. Magicat Posted May 25, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 25, 2004 On both occasions on RCCL we brought a couple of our favourite wines aboard as they do not have much in the selection of South Australian wines. We packed them into our checked bags along with 12 cans of our favourite beer. Then at every port we managed to purchase more mirco brewery beers and bring those on board. No problems...however it makes me wonder that with all the booze we brought on board how did we still managed to ring up a bar tap of $300.00 over 7 days? Canadians eh!
