zanydoc Posted March 10, 2010 #151 Share Posted March 10, 2010 I heard it's impossible to get a chair by the pool because people put stuff on the chair than leave for the day and it sits unused. It was rediculious on NCL and was wondering if it's the same on X. If you have any suggestions I would love to know. What a funny thread this turned out to be! I can't believe that no one else has thought of this because this is all about territory for the chair hogs. All you have to do is get up early and go PEE on the chairs you would like to have! I'm sure that no one else will be interested in them after that!
sandyss Posted March 11, 2010 #152 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Unlike, many who have added to this thread, we do not want to sit by the pool for hours on end. We would never consider claiming a chair for the day, since we only want to use the chairs for a short while. We tend to ration our time in the sun because we're concerned about skin cancers. Nevertheless, it would be nice for us to be able to find a poolside chair to use while we, or our granddaughter, use the pool for around an hour sometime during the day. In the past, we have also removed wet towels from seemingly unused chairs, so that we could be by the pool for a short length of time. We only like to have chairs by the pool while making use of the pool. For the rest of the time, chairs anywhere on the ship - in the shade - are our preference. Chair hogs by the pool make this very difficult for us. If you are not using your chair, please give it up so others can enjoy the pool area. USVI-4-me Posted March 11, 2010 #154 Share Posted March 11, 2010 From what I see those that prowl around chucking people's stuff off chairs appear as bullies to me, not condoning chair hogging at all, but maybe there is a new term "chair rustlers!" There needs to be a LOST and FOUND area on POOL Deck. You don't find something if a person is sitting on the lounger using it. WHEN I'm in the pool, I mark my chair and watch it. I've stayed in the pool for more than 30 minutes, so understand I've "hogged a chair" somebody could use. =Maris

80sramfan Posted March 11, 2010 #156 Share Posted March 11, 2010 However, if your body is not in the chair for 30 minutes, it is no longer "yours". A cruise ship is not a theatre or sports venue with paid-for reserved seating. If I was up at 8 to get a lounge chair, my butt would be in the chair at 8. Leaving only for a quick cup of coffee. Trying to hold a chair at 8 and leaving it empty until 10. Ridiculous rudeness. And they should be called on it. I have no problems asking the pool attendant to remove the items and store them safely somewhere else. It's THEIR job. And you can insist they follow X policy. Unless punches are thrown, I doubt any chair hog arguments would get someone thrown off the ship. It's just a matter of time until some idiot tries to steal another persons chair be removing their property and that person picks them up and throws the other person overboard. 80sramfan Posted March 11, 2010 #157 Share Posted March 11, 2010 There is a poster who suggests that it is wrong to take a lounger early & use it all day, with normal natural breaks. It is me! Everyone on the ship has paid to use the public facilities and nobody, and I mean NOBODY, should get to "HOG" a chair all day, whether they occupy the chair or not. Don't be rude, insensitive and greedy when it comes to your fellow passengers. A couple of hours is more than your fair share of time. Give up the chair with a cheerful attitude and let your fellow passengers enjoy their cruise. Happy cruising to all! Bob ridiculous! As long as you are using it you can use it from sun up to sun down. Are you a socialist? Sure sounds like it

I, too, paid for my cruise, and if if what I want from my vacation, that I paid for, is to lounge all day long, then it's perfectly within my right to. I can tell you, if they start setting "time limits" for chair occupancy, the cruiselines will have a revolt on their hands. I think the majority of posters here have no problems with someone using a chair all day, as long as they are USING it all day.
