Where are all the threads about confiscated booze?

with all the hype recently, and the new "rules" going into effect on Jan. 31, where are all the reports of booze being confiscated? Everybody has gotten so excited about the x-ray machines being able to see what color vodka is, but i have only seen one report of booze being confiscated, and that was not a very reliable post.

If you really care. Look back a few pages. Everyone else has lost interest in these lame issues.

well if the new rule went into effect on the 31st, then people have a very short attention span, that was 11 days ago it went into effect. maybe there's not been threads about it because it's business as usual, and the people that have been celebrating that carnival is cracking down on smugglers actually have nothing to celebrate about.:D

And X-ray machine is still just that right....

we use Rum runners,...so are these machines supposed to catch those too? I seriously doubt it...I think it's just the luck of the draw like before. Or people taking actual bottles....

Tell me if I am wrong..

Newt, I admit I haven't read everyone of the threads but I do remember one person saying the had lost some booze, plus a sealed large bottle of water. OR something to that effect. There were others that said they got stuff on with no problem, so who knows yet what may happen in the following weeks.

and the new type of Xray machine hasn't even been tested with TSA yet, I really doubt Carnival is using them yet either.

Well... have you ever seen the level of detail that airport scanners show when you go through security with your carry-on stuff? It's pretty amazing. Not detailed enough to discern whether a bottle contains vodka or mouthwash, but certainly detailed enough to detect the form of a rum runner.

I cant believe how many threads about booze smuggling have been started lately on CC.

Can't wait for the threads on " Why is Carnival raising their Rates" to start when they do raise them to offset the lost revenue because of all the booze smuggling.....

Just returned from eight day cruise on the miracle we set sail on jan 31 ans my whole case of beer with six cans in each suitcasem my wine box and my two rumrunners all arrived safely outside my stateroom door. This is my tenth time cruising and 3rd with carnival. They are not loking for booze in scanners

There was one and it was "verified" by someone as a hoax...

Someone said thay had a water bottle taken?? Maybe they thought it had been opened??

For all the outcry, there are continued reports of it getting on, not people getting caught.

Don't know how much more reliable it can get than from someone who actually had a bottle of wine removed from the checked luggage and traveled on a ship with many others who also had it taken. The only reason I posted this is to alert anyone who wanted to carry liquor onboard, not to put it in their checked luggage in the Port of Miami. Simple as that.

They have upgraded the scanning devices that are used on checked luggage. They get different types of images for different types of liquids, based on a number of factors.

I just got back from my cruise on Carnival yesterday. If Carnival is trying to crack down on booze smuggling they certainly aren't trying very hard. We smuggled liquor on board at the beginning using the same process many have already talked about, rum runners, or in our case hydration packs. We were also able to smuggle on board actual bottles at every port we went to. Of course we still wound up buying drinks on board because it's a little bit of a pain to go down to your room every time you run out. So Carnival still made a nice profit off of us, probably about as much as they would have if we hadn't been successful smuggling as we just wouldn't have drank that much. Also there profits were probably even a little better; when you're slightly intoxicated you tend to spend more money in the casino, or at least we did. Bottom line, the new rules are meant for security purposes not to stamp out booze smuggling.

how reliable is a post that says "everybody" had their alcohol removed? as if she actually knows that everybody on the ship had their liquor removed. especially when many people have come back and said that they got their liquor through.

Jus't returned from a 4 day on the Destiny leaving Mia on 2/4. Everyone's checked liquor, in any form and packaged in any way was removed from their suitcase and delivered the last night of the cruise. I had read that Mia and San Juan were starting new procedures, but I am here to report that you can only bring wine onboard by bringing it with you in your carry on. One bottle. New scanning devices in Mia pick up liquor in bags and even distinguish between water. vodka and gin. Different colors for each liquid. The last night when it was delivered to our room, the amount they were delivering was astounding!! It almost ruins the fun of cruising..

I traveled with a group of 6 women. All had 1 bottle of wine, in checked luggage and one also had an iced tea bottle with bourbon.

I am platinum and my roomate and I boarded separately from the other 4. All wine and liquor was removed from our suitcases prior to delivery to our cabin. In place of the wine was a letter from Carnival stating that it had been removed. If your suitcase was locked, you had to go to security on the ship to unlock it before you could take it to your cabin.

The x-ray capability detects different colors for different types of liquids.

As you might guess, the line at the pursers office was quite long with people complaining. It was "the topic of conversation" and that is why I know that most if not all had their liquor confiscated.

This new technology started, I guess on January 30 and Miami and San Juan are the only ports at this time to have it. That's all I know. Just want to pass the word along so you can pack accordingly.

The OP on thread Port of Miami and checked liquor and wine may possibly be exaggerating as she probably would really not have any way to know that, but it apparently seemed like everyone.

But there's no reason to doubt that she and her party had their alcohol removed from their luggage.

It's as reliable as any other post on the board.

As a nurse I find all this very interesting. Maybe medical centers should start putting patients through Carnival's luggage screening since it seems to be able to pick up things that even medical scans cannot. Multi-million dollars machines in medicine (Nuclear X Rays, CAT scanners, PET Scanners etc) even with radioactive dyes cannot always spot things. Medicine doesn't advertise the amount of times "surprises" :eek:are found during surgery that are never seen on any scanners. Next time a doctor needs an comprehensive scan read by an experienced radiologist, I think recommending Carnival's scanners would be the way to go. After all, with X-Ray machines and screeners able to detect things medicine can only dream about, it's probably cheaper for patients just to follow their checked luggage through the Carnival screening process.;)
