hi just wondering what best time is to board splendor? ive heard they give a n automated message to not board before 200 but we will be spending saturday at the lONG BEACH hilton and would like to board early if possible.

When we sailed the Splendor last October, we arrived at the pier just before 10:00 and did the early check-in outside the dome and were on board before noon, very easy if you get there early (before 10:30) or late (after 2:00), in between those times it's very crowded.

You and everyone else, unless you are VIP, you aren't boarding before 1:00 p.m. And that depends on what boarding number you have. Even if you get there early with a low boarding number, the wait is horrrrrendous! Our experience on the Splendor cruise for embarkation wasn't something we want to experience again.

Wow, ours wasn't that bad and we were having our first DOD way before 1:00, before noon infact, I guess it varies from week to week and depends on ship arrival time, customs, etc.

Get there at 9:30 with all of your bags, check in and get rid of your bags. They will give you a card that says "Zone 1." Then, get on the Long Beach free shuttle and go to the aquarium, or even just into Long Beach to walk around. Early in the afternoon, take the shuttle back to the Splendor, show your "Zone 1" card, and you will be taken to the front of the line. We did this two weeks ago, and it was wonderful. We loved the aquarium and Shoreline Village in Long Beach. Don't waste your time sitting and waiting to board the Splendor!

We were just on the Splendor last week and also got the call to not arrive before 2. We were there about 11:30 and there were no lines to check in which was a quick process and received zone 3 boarding pass. We were not able to board the ship until a little after 1, but speaking to workers there it seemed this was a little later than usual. We watched stragglers coming off the ship until 1. While waiting we watched the check in line continue to grow, and as we boarded the ship that line had what looked like several hundred people waiting to check in. My experience was you are going to wait a little while either way to board, but I would much rather wait after checked in able to sit and enjoy myself than waiting in a line being herded through hundreds of people. The whole check in process at Long Beach was the worst of my six cruises, not bad by any means. Long Beach just does not have the facilities that all the other ports I have sailed out of have, making the checkin process harder.

Our embarkation (and debarkation for that matter) on the Splendor was the easiest we have ever had. While we were VIP others in our group were not. Everyone in our group was on the ship by 12:15, drink in hand.:)
