Injured on Cruise Ship?

OP - I was on the Splendor a week before you. I almost slipped in the elevator the 2nd full day at sea from all the water that was pooled up on the floor from people getting in them before drying off completely from the pool. I noticed wet floors there several times. I dont doubt one bit that there was water on the floor in the MDR. I hope you recover fully!!

I have to agree with you there.. I was on the winning team of Quest on Freedom of the Seas in Oct. and yes it was crowded but most people did not want to play and we were in the center of the isle and nobody had a problem letting us out they all stood up and cheered us out on the floor.

Jumping over the wall although at the time sounds like a good idea sadly did not work out for her. I am sure she is in alot of pain and for that I am sorry:(

Hello, Maureen again- I think my point is that by having it at the icerink they are aware that everyone is jumping over the wall. It is dangerous. They watched the people jumping over the wall and never said no to. It is an accident waiting to happen (and it did). It is funner in a lounge anyway, because they have more teams so more people doing funny things. The way they did it, only the captains of the teams did 90% of the activities because they were already on the icerink. I am also shocked that the Head of Security refused to help me until after a waitress had already called for help. The OP here got treated for free by the ship for a sprain and I had to pay for my treatment which required surgery when I got home. At the very least, you don't think they should correct the math error? Wow, you guys are tough! Thanks for the opinions...Maureen

Are you kidding me, that is your only response is to sue, you people have to learn that not everything is worth suing over. All she wants to do is file a complaint (which I personally don't blame her), but sue over a sprained ankle is going just a bit to far.

She wants to file a complaint because some jerkoff spilled his wine on the way to the dining room 2 minutes before she got there? If that's how it goes, I'd like to file a complaint against the jerkoff that cut me off in traffic this morning.

Are you seriously sitting there in your wheelchair complaining about 16 bucks? That was the math error, right? Is my brain about to explode, or are you complaining about $16 at 12:15 a.m. while sitting in a wheelchair? At 12:15 a.m.? Over 16 bucks!? While sitting in a wheelchair?!?

My point is, did they force anyone to climb a wall?

Well, since everyone jumped down my throat at the idea that I should not have had to pay for the treatment on the ship (250.00) like the OP here who was not seriously injured did not have to pay for her treatment, I thought maybe someone would agree that I should write them a letter about how dangerous it was and mention the 16.00 at the same time. Time really doesn't matter when you are out of work, you know. I stay up till 4 and then sleep till noon. Anyway, since it bothers you so much, I will go back to Royal Caribbean and stop posting on the Carnival Board-Have a nice life...Maureen

Got my hand caught between the railing and the tender boat when we were getting off the tender to the ship. The crew was very nice. They put a brace on and I went to the doctor when I got home - broken in two places and was in a cast for weeks. Things happen, I would never blame anyone on the cruise ship. Yes I missed 6 weeks of work but the same thing could have happened in my own home or anywhere else. Carnival followed up with a phone call after I came home, which I thought was appropriate. The truth is I am middle age, overweight, out of shape and clumsy and that is why it happened. Lawsuits are not retirement plans....pick yourself up, dust yourself off and pray that you don't get to see it over and over on You Tube

I slipped by the beginning of the buffet where the hand sanitizer is. That stupid thing gives out too much and people shake the excess off their hands and onto the floor. There was an officer right there who saw this and asked if I was ok & wanted to go to the infirmary. I told him no & that I'm ok. He immediately made sure that area was mopped.

More embarrassed than hurt. Luckily I'm height challenged, so it wasn't a long fall to the ground. :D

Are we not responsible AT ALL any longer, for looking out for ourselves to some degree?? Come ON!! There was some water spilled on the floor!! And you slipped! Have you never slipped on your kitchen or bathroom floor? What about a slippery walkway? It is unfortunate and I am sorry you got hurt, but to look at it as a cash cow is just completely representative of our overly litigious society of today. This is why our insurance premiums have skyrocketed. If you were well enough to get back up and clean up the spill yourself, I'm not surprised that the staff carried on with their business. It likely didn't look like you were seriously injured if your main concern was cleaning up the mess and not complaining about your injury. I'm sorry that the staff didn't stop what they were doing to check on your well-being, (that is unfortunate) but what do you want out of this? At some point I think we need to take some responsibility for not watching what we are doing! It was an ACCIDENT!!!

I don't know about you, but I'm not usually looking down at the floor when I walk so I wouldn't have saw the pool of water either. If I were out on deck after a rain, I would expect there to be water and would be prepared for it, but not walking into a dining room on elegant night most likely wearing heels. Whoever spilled the water in the first place should've been the one to take responsibility and had it cleaned up immediately before someone slipped on it.

I never said I was well enough to get back up....i was on the ground for 10 minutes until the party I was with helped me into a chair that was nearby. I was also taken to the infirmary in a wheelchair. My ankle was exremely swollen and bruised and I was in a lot of pain. How is this MY fault?? There was a patch of water on the floor that I didn't see until after I was laying on the ground. I did grab a napkin that was on a table next to me and threw it over the water so nobody else would fall....so this means I wasn't injured?

What do I want out of this? I want recognition by them that I was hurt due to their negligence. I want an apology for the Maiter D calling me a liar to my face when I explained to him how the dining room staff reacted when I fell. You are wrongly assuming that I'm looking at this as a cash cow.

Why didn't the party you were with help you into a chair asap? Since you were able to grab a napkin it was obviously close. What possible reason could you have for laying on the floor for 10 minutes other than to give a show?

Were you wearing proper shoes for being on a moving vessel in the water?

Now I am just pointing out the above questions that you would be answering if you tried to persue this and this is not a personal attack or anything at you personally but an example of what you be answering.I don't know how to disclaim it anymore here.

What exactly would "proper shoes for being on a moving vessel" be in your opinion? It was elegant night....I had on moderate (2 inch...not narrow but chunky wide) heels.

Then please... go do it & let's be done with this! I provided a Guest Service department phone number, and their mailing address for you in an earlier post, as you had requested. Good luck...

I saw you fall!!

At least it sounds like it may have been you. I told my wife "that lady just busted her a$$" We were sitting the second table from where you fell with one table between us but off to the side and I had a clear view of you as you got up.

We both commented to each other that none of the staff even tried to help you get up or talk to you. You are right, they just kept working as if nothing happened. One of them stepped right over your leg!! I was starting to come over to you when you got up so I stayed at my table.

I will say this - - - those marble floors in the Splendor are absolutey beautiful but should not be in a food area. The Lido buffet was dangerous at best during meals times. The crew tried to keep the floor clean and dry but after a greasy food spill it would be very slippery for quite a while.

I hope you are better now and no long effects from your fall. If it helps, after seeing you fall I always held my wife's arm when we would travel on that marble floor. We learned at your expense though.

I'll bet the liquid was tomato juice, that is why it was so slick.

Again, not directed at you,but from a legal point, here is what the CCL website states...... We suggest you wear rubber-soled, low heeled or flat shoes for extra traction while onboard.

This is where you will lose.Did you follow the suggested footwear guidelines? No, so if you had rubbersoled footwear on would you have slipped? I know it was Elegant night but they do have the above listed on the website.

So don't spend any money on a lawyer as they will just take it and accomplish very little.

Do they expect everyone to wear sneakers all the time? Yes! (well not really but from a fine print standpoint it is yes)

Sorry.

I'm sure that was me you saw.....hope you didn't see too much though! ;-) LOL

I'm doing ok......the swelling is down but the bruising is still bad. I've been training for 6 months to run the LA marathon for charity on March 21st....doesn't look like that's going to happen. :-(

Since the floor is marble & wet, it probably would not have mattered what shoes she wore if she hit the water in the right spot, she probably hydroplaned and slipped. (Just like a car hydroplaning on a wet road)

So you watched her fall and being stepped over on the floor with no one helping for 10 minutes before you thought about getting up to help?

If I had seen it, I would have gone to help the minute I realized no one else appeared to be going too.

But maybe that is just me. Or maybe she wasn't down for 10 minutes. Just saying.

And yes, mark me down as one who thinks it is someone's personal responsibility to keep an eye on where they are walking, esp if they are wearing 2 inch heels.

A few years ago I missed the last step while walking down a stairway into the Casino on a non-CCL ship. It was the last night of the second leg of a B2B. As soon as I fell, several crew members were there. Before long, the medical staff was called and I was taken to the Medical facility. Turned out my ankle was broken. I had x-rays, a plaster splint was applied, I was given pain pills, and left with a wheelchair for my use until I left the ship the next morning. Total cost was $256.00 which DH and I gladly paid (and travel insurance later re-imbursed). Not the way I wanted to end my trip, but ultimately survivable.

The thing that made the biggest impression on me was how many of our fellow passengers' first comment after asking what happened was "I hope you at least get a free cruise out of it!" What happened was my own stupid, clumsy fault and in no way was the cruise line's fault. Why would that, by any stretch of the imagination, obligate the cruise line to give me ANYTHING? I finally came to the conclusion that this is a reflection on the state of society today and was kind of sad.
