bntacruising Posted March 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2010 This will be my first cruise on Princess. I have always been on Carnival. It sounds like Princess does not dock in the same place as Carnival. I always get off the boat and go straight to the Red Hook Ferry to spend the day in St. John. Will this still be the best way to get there on my own. Wondering how far away Princess docks from Charlotte Amalie.
belle626 Posted March 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2010 When we went two summers ago on the Caribbean Princess, we docked at Crown Bay. you would need to take a taxi to town and the other dock, Havensight.
Langley Cruisers Posted March 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2010 It depends on the day; I believe it is at the discretion of the Port Authority. We were scheduled to dock at CB on Emerald Princess last year but at the last moment, we docked at Havensight. I say plan for either and you won't be disappointed. CB is approximately 2 miles west of Charlotte Amalie. We were on the Ruby in December. It was originally scheduled for Crown Bay but we actually docked at Havensight because the QM2 took up the space at CB. The pier at Havensight is approximately 1 1/2 miles from Charlotte Amalie, where a ferry to St. John is also available. Both ports will have taxis readily available to take you to the ferry. I will be returning to St. Thomas in September on the NCL Epic and I'm also considering a trip to St. John on my own (as opposed to signing up with the ship's excursions). swimgirl1 Posted March 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2010 From Crown Bay if Princess does dock there- how far is any shopping? What is it like? Vendors or outside "mall" type (i.e. Hawaii)? Easy to find after our excursion?
