mel77gap Posted March 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2010 We are sailing on Carnival Freedom in May and will be traveling with a 11 month old and was wondering if the cruise line will give us a crib or is it a pack-n-play for the baby? Also, are there highchairs in the dining room? I have read that Camp Carnival doesn't take under 2's but are the times that we can take the baby in so that he can play with some of the toys? Any advice for help(: Thanks!
notentirelynormal Posted March 5, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2010 Can't answer your question for Carnival - but bring your own crib sheets. They use the adult sheets for the cribs and they can be a tad rough on tender skin.
TarheelMCH Posted March 5, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2010 We just returned from the Carnival Pride - yes, they do have actual cribs, not pack-n-plays. There are high chairs in the dining room and in the buffet. I don't think kids under two, even with parents, can go to camp carnival, it seemed pretty tightly controlled. I do think that you can arrange babysitting for under twos, though only after 10pm.
Julienatul Posted March 5, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2010 They are metal port a cribs on Carnival not pack n plays. They have high chairs grey plastic ones that sit right up to the table. There is under 2 time on sea days from noon-2pm for $6/hr babysitiing or you can go in and play for free. You can also go to any of the family activities with him/her...welcome aboard dance party, ice cream social, build a bear etc.
MNmomof4 Posted March 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2010 The port a cribs are technically the same size as a pack and play. I bring my own sheet from home from the pack and play. They dont provide blankets either for the crib.
mel77gap Posted March 7, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks guys for the crib/high chair advice! One more question, since the crib is a crib and not a pack-n-play, would it be better to bring crib sheets or pack-n-play sheets?
MNmomof4 Posted March 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2010 The 3 carnival ships I was on had portable cribs the size if my graco packandplay and fit my packnplay sheets perfectly
YOWmom Posted March 9, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2010 We were on the Glory in January with an 11 month old, and they did have playtime for under 2s, usually from noon to 2:00 p.m. on sea days (when the camp was closed for lunch for the older kids). I wish the play area had been accessible at other times, but it was nice to at least have a couple of hours where she could crawl around freely and check out some different toys, in a fairly safe and contained environment. During these playtimes, parents could either stay and play with their kids or drop them off for $6 hour. The only other time under 2s can use Camp Carnival is from 10 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. for "babysitting" - again $6/hour but we never used that service. Also, for a photo of the cribs on carnival, see my post at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1144641 and I agree with the others, a pack and play sheet fits best. imsulin Posted March 9, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 9, 2010 You need to request a crib well before your cruise begins so it will be in your cabin when you arrive, just to make sure you have one.
mel77gap Posted March 11, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks for the crib pic(: Is there anything thing else you can reccomend us regarding travel with a 11 month year old? I've read that many parents bring a baby blow up pool since babies that aren't potty trainied can't go in the pools, did you do this?
cruisealot Posted March 13, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 13, 2010 We brought our own crib sheets when we sailed with our daughter. Just a little something to make it seem more like home when we turned her world upside down.
jam82 Posted March 14, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 14, 2010 Maybe it's me, but my pack and play sheets did not fit on the crib. High chairs were available. Camp Carnival is open for under two's from 12pm - 2pm on sea days, from arrival in port until 12 noon, and from 10pm-3am every night.
blondi_21 Posted May 21, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 21, 2010 is the crib mattress thick or thin?
YOWmom Posted May 22, 2010 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2010 is the crib mattress thick or thin? It's much thinner than a standard crib mattress - I brought two Kushies pack n' play sheets and they fit fine. A standard crib sheet probably would have been a bit loose
tamsocal Posted May 23, 2010 #15 Share Posted May 23, 2010 These are great for paknplays. http://www.coverplayard.com/ Before above. We would take 2 crib sheets & 2 paknplay sheets unless we knew for sure what type of bed we would end up with(pnplay vs crib)- a few times on Carnival-- the pak n play sheet would not fit on the white metal crib mattress. Bringing the sheets are not a absolute necessity but we just choose to
