5waldos Posted March 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2010 We have only had an aft balcony before and had no trouble keeping the door open- it just stayed open. On our upcoming cruise we have a midship balcony. Will this be more difficult? We brought a bungee cord last time, at everyone's insistence here, and never unpacked it. Suddenly I'm wondering if being on the side of the ship is what makes it different???
mboatman Posted March 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2010 I did need it for the Glory balcony, right at midship. I see a lot of people use a chair/table, but I like the bunjee.

Clfa2011 Posted March 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Yep! I turn the air in the cabin off, then enjoy the fresh air and wonderful sounds of the sea all night....
michellejed Posted March 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2010 We tried a bungee one time and as I was out on the balcony my daughter opened the hall door and binggggggggggggggg went the bungee to a place I do not know! Great suction from the hall! We use a chair now.
mboatman Posted March 15, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 15, 2010 It really does create a great wind tunnel affect. Hope you didn't lose anything else.
Upandadam Posted March 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Have always used a bungee and it works great. As for sucking the cool air out, I find that argument silly. Sorry. If I wanted the air to be cool, I'd have the AC on and the door closed. I don't cruise warm climates to be stuck in ac. Don't know anyone who leaves the ac on with the door open. But, do make sure you close the balcony door before opening the cabin door. Creates quite the wind tunnel most of the time.
subaruSTi Posted March 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Just got home yesterday :( we used a toothbrush and it worked perfectly! It kept the door about exactly 90 degrees opened! Here's a pic

newt98 Posted March 15, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 15, 2010 we have had to use a bunjee on the valor, victory, and triumph on a midship balcony. sorry, not a dumb idea. the a/c runs 24/7, it's a matter of whether or not your vent is open. poobears Posted March 15, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 15, 2010 I agree its' a waste to open it if the air vent is on but if you turn it off I don't see a big deal as long as you don't get sucked out if the hall door is open LOL The toothbrush idea is brilliant. This will be our first balcony so not sure if we'll prop the door or not. I'm thinking probably not or the room will just get hot and stuffy. 5waldos Posted March 15, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted March 15, 2010 I like the toothbrush, although it took me a minute to figure out where you were putting it. Great view too- I'm really ready to be on the water!
fourwaystreet Posted March 16, 2010 #17 Share Posted March 16, 2010 We took a bungie cord but ended up using the rubber wedge that the cabin stewards use to block open the door while cleaning. It worked just fine.
LambKnuckles Posted March 16, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 16, 2010 My first balcony will be in Feb 2011... I will try to remember the toothbrush trick... I'm booked on the ECSTASY and Mom is in a wheelchair and will want to be in and out and won't be able to open and close it alone!!! This is perfect!!!
