cruisernh Posted March 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We will be arriving in Baltimore early from BWI. Can we drop off our luggage and go to Fort Mchenry. Is the fort a walkable distance from the ship?

mikedw Posted March 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2010 You're looking at about a mile, maybe mile in a half at most, unfortunately I really wouldn't consider walking it. Until you get on Fort Ave, the area around the cruise terminal really is pedestrian friendly.
Betsy's Mom Posted March 18, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2010 I think he means "not pedestrian friendly". Lots of converging roads, plus an interstate and overpasses. This is an industrial port and you really do not want to walk around it. It is not dangerous in the criminal way, just very congested and busy with traffic. B. SugarCharlotte Posted March 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2010 I think he means is *NOT* pedestrian friendly. Because it isnt... Do the street view on that map and "walk" it. I wouldnt do it...
mikedw Posted March 18, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Sorry, everyone is correct, it's not pedestrian friendly. That's what I get for typing after a long day at work:)LOL
madelinerose Posted March 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 21, 2010 Right, not pedestrian friendly. In addition to Meg's map, here's Mapquest. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Baltimore&1s=MD&1a=2001+E+McComas+St&1z=21230-5018&1y=US&1l=39.26612&1g=-76.598699&1v=ADDRESS&2pn=Fort+Mchenry+National+Monument&2c=Baltimore&2s=MD&2a=2400+E+Fort+Ave&2z=21230&2y=US&2l=39.26541&2g=-76.58345&2v=ADDRESS&2id=262326846#b/maps/l::2001+E+McComas+St:Baltimore:MD:21230-5018:US:39.26612:-76.598699:address::1:::/l:Fort+Mchenry+National+Monument:2400+E+Fort+Ave:Baltimore:MD:21230:US:39.26541:-76.58345:address::1:::262326846/io:1:::::f:::/e Sure, it physically can be done, but not under the best circumstances, especially when you're unfamiliar with the area. Will you have enough time after dropping your bags off on the ship? Will your ship hold your bags if you can't get into your cabin immediately? Perhaps you could grab a taxi at the port to get to the Fort, but I've never seen any taxis lined up at Fort McHenry for your ride back to the ship. In addition, in August, it will be hot and humid. Good luck. ;)
