Carnival Dream - Feedback

We just got back from the 3/13 Dream Cruise and for the most part everything was great except our room. There were 4,400 people on the ship and we had almost no lines. We have sailed on almost every class of Carnival so we were shocked that we did not witness any long lines.

General Tidbits:

Chef's Table - Fun Behind - This was an outstanding option. 2 nights on the ship the Chef has 12 people eat in the Galley for $75 a person. While the $75 might seem expensive you get a 7 course specialty meal (very unique), wine, champagne, photo, book, and service that could not be beat. You also eat in the middle of the Galley during the dinner rush so you get to see the entire magic take place. I highly recommend this since the Executive Chef is there the entire time and answers all your questions.

Spa Rooms - we were in room 11218 and would not recommend this to anyone! We should have looked closer but the room is right under the treadmills. How the heck can you have an R&R room get-away with the sound of thud thud thud from 5:30am to late. Not worth it!

Ship Size – This being our 8th cruise on Carnival it was weird being on this size of ship. It was good but there is a lot of personality that is lost. We just did not get to know the crew like we had in past cruises. They were always smiling and as a crew in general they had the highest morale that we have seen. Not one negative comment from the crew (yes we love getting to meet the crew and talk with them about anything and everything). We would do the Dream again but it will not be a first choice.

Beverage Service - One thing we were shocked was how Carnival appears to have tone down on having someone ask you if you want a beverage every 5 minutes. While past cruises (all lines) you try and relax in your lounge chair and it always seems to be a beverage service crew member asking if you need a bucket of beer or something. I hope this is trend.

Spa - The thermal suites and Thalassotherapy Pool was well worth it. I would have rather paid the extra instead of getting the spa room (see above) but it was well worth it. The thermal suites were never that busy and what a way to get away from it all and have some great views. If you need a place to relax and help sooth your aches and pains then I highly recommend this.

If anyone has any general questions about the ship let me know but I wanted to add a few things.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise.

I agree about the spa rooms on deck 11 on the starboard side, especially the balcony rooms. SIL was in 11230 and we were in 11234 in January. Both rooms had treadmill vibrations noise once the treadmills got going. I never heard it partly because I was up there helping to make the noise. The deck plan overlay appeared to show that we weren't that far forward, more under the salon, but evidently it wasn't to scale. We switched our May reservations to the Port side under the relaxation lounge and massage rooms. DW and SIL have to have their spa they love the thalasso pool and the steam rooms. But that was our only real complaint on the ship. We missed the Lanai deck BBQ lunch and using the waterslides and mini golf due to bad weather, so i'm looking forward to that in 2 months.

All you want during its hours of operation. You'll get a wrist band, like those Livestrong bands, to wear 24/7. You show that and hand them your S&S and they'll give you a separate key card for the pool and therapy rooms. Good inside access to the Serenity deck. Hit the "tea" room in the late mid afternoon after a steam or hot tile lounge nap, and enjoy the waning day. Ue the showers there instead of the ones in your cabin. Great for when both of you are getting ready at the same time.

Hi! I think you might have meant "Port" instead of "Starboard" and vice-versa. The deck plans show the gym and treadmills on the port side (even numbered cabins), which is why I booked my spa cabin on the starboard side (odd numbered cabins). ;)

Just wanted to clarify for those looking to book a spa cabin.

It seems all they did was take a Conquest ship, add an extra deck or two of cabins. Hardly any more public space. I really have no real interest in it.

They did quite a bit more than just add a deck or two. They completely redesigned the Promenade including 4 new hot tubs, a wrap around deck, an additional bar plus BBQ on the Lanai. Moved all of the kids spaces and most of the meeting rooms to lower Dream street (deck 4). The casino is much larger. There are numerous internet hot spots on several different decks. They also redesigned the Lobby.

I've been on Conquest class ships 10 times and I thought the Dream felt and looked much roomier.

Hi there!

I originally booked on the port side and have since changed to the starboard side as well. I read too many threads about noise coming from the gym above.

I'm really glad I've changed sides!

Now I just have to wait 282 more days!! :D
