Can you give some idea of timeframe (are you staying in Tokyo? Or just visiting for a day from cruise ship?), budget, and what you want to see?

We will be staying for about 4 days .

One of the best things you can do in Tokyo is get a hotel next to a major subway station and by daypasses for the subway and maybe Japan Railways. The subway stops you want to visit are Asakusa, Akihabara, Shibuya, Ginza, and a few others.

A guide will cost a small fortune. You don't really need one.

Smooth sailing...

Just to follow-up on my post, the good thing about Tokyo is that it has a terrific subway system, maybe the worlds best.

Also, the subways have a lot of English.

So if you get a typical guide book, anchor yourself in a hotel like the New Otani or Akasaka Prince next to a very large subway station, you really can navigate the city yourself.

Anyway, hope this helps. I lived there for three years. If you have any specific questions I would be happy to try to help.

Smooth sailing...
