aldrin Posted April 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Has anyone used the Crystal cruise insurance? It is more expensive than others. What should we do?
sail7seas Posted April 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Many of us prefer booking third party insurance. Look at http://www.insuremytrip.com and see if any there interests you.
cruiseco Posted April 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Has anyone used the Crystal cruise insurance? It is more expensive than others. What should we do? Like most cruise line plans the premiums to not take into account the passenger's age so for some it may be more expensive, for others it can be a very good value. What I'm not crazy about, given some of the exotic itineraries Crystal does, is the relatively low ($50K) emergency evacuation benefit. If you're sailing around the Seychelles that's probably not going to be enough. Otherwise, it's a pretty basic BerkleyCare plan. No coverage for pre-existing medical conditions but if you have to cancel because of a pre-existing condition they'll give you a credit toward a future cruise equal to whatever the penalty amount is. kitty9 Posted April 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2010 I've been on 18 Crystal cruises and never purchased their insurance. I prefer finding my own, that covers more than their plan does, plus I need pre-existing coverage.
candydane Posted April 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2010 I also recommend a non-cruiseline policy. I usually buy trip insurance from Trip Insurance Store. They offer less options than insuremytrip.com, but give complete information about the policies they do carry. They have been knowledgeable and helpful the few times I've had to call. Krazy Kruizers Posted April 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2010 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Definitely buy Cruise Insurance -- but from a third party. We never buy the cruise lines insurance.
sail7seas Posted April 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 3, 2010 If you buy the cruise line insurance and they go out of business/bankrupt...... would their coverage pay?
