sharonlacey Posted April 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Has anyone packed wine in suitcase? Do they check? Last time we cruised (4 yrs ago) we packed a couple of bottles and we had no problem, was wondering if should do it or not worth it. Can you order wine for your room if cant bring it? gerif Posted April 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Sometimes they check, sometimes they don't - however, from recent reports, it seems they are being much more diligent of late in detecting packed bottles. Yes, you may order as much as you want for your room (wine, that is).
critterchick Posted April 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2010 We've never tried to smuggle wine. I'd be worried about breakage. They do check, pretty closely, especially at spring break. The prices onboard are comparable to a restaurant - marked up anywhere from 1.5x retail to 5x retail. You can order wine from room service - I don't know if they'll let you order from the entire wine list, but if not you can get an extra bottle at dinner and take it back to your cabin with you to drink whenever you please. I think you'd have a better chance of getting boxed wine through than a bottle. :)
UandMe4Ever Posted April 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2010 Hi: Would it be better for us to take 1 bottle of a Creme Sherry in our carryon or pack it in our luggage? We have no problem paying corkage if necessary! What is the best idea? We are not flying! Thanks in advance. PS Going on Explorer in November from NJ

PS Going on Explorer in November from NJ They will scan your carry-on bags, just like at the airport, when you board the ship. You won't get anything through inside your carry-on. foureyedbuzzard Posted April 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2010 They snagged my 3 liter box of wine in Miami. They missed the rumrunners.;)
krisko Posted April 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2010 I would recommend rum runners for wine or you could try a boxed wine called 'Black Box'. Both should not be detectable to scanning and my wife recently tried the Black Box Chardonnay and found it to be pretty good.
Rare silentbob007 Posted April 12, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2010 There isn't a corkage fee as you are not supposed to be able to bring anything on. They definitely have been more diligent in confiscating alcohol.
UandMe4Ever Posted April 12, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2010 Thanks all ~ The carryon is now out of the question. In Oct. 08, we got 1 bottle through packed securely in the luggage. We'll decide what to do.
