Unruly kids onboard

People complain so much about unruly kids, where are the parent etc. Yes, I have seen unruly kids, and wondered where the parents are, but really is it any worse on a cruise ship than in real life. I see nothing on a cruise ship that I don't see at my local grocery store. It is just the perception of wanting no one to be in your way on your vacation. There is a song from my child hood that says "Have patience, think of all the times when others have to wait for you" Yes, kids will be unruly, but were yours perfect all the time, were you perfect all the time? People really need to let this issue go.

I am yet to go on a cruise where there isnt kids that get on my nerves. I was in the casino one night (around 10pm or so) and 2 kids (maybe 16 or so yrs old) started fighting along the walkway around the casino. While about 20+ others stood around and just watched...including kids/friends of the kids fighting. I ended up jumping in and seperated the 2 punk kids. One of them had appeared to have been drinking (def under age!) Security showed up and did nothing besides send them in seperate directions. I was a bit surprised especially beings at least one of those kids was slightly intoxicated.

I really think there needs to be a curfew onboard...just like in most states! And I really think these parents who think its such a great idea to bring these kids also be responsible and keep an eye on their kids so they are not drinking alcohol and getting into trouble. Obviously this kid drank...so how did he get the alcohol? Either his parents gave it to him or they smuggled some on the boat and the kid stole some. Either way I think the parents need to be a little more responsible.

I just hope I don't see any kids with those stupid roller shoes! For the love of Pete, I HATE those %&$# shoes.

(LOL! I sound like an old person ... but I am only 36)

It's just that seems like only the most obnoxious kids wear those shoes and they are always all over the place in the stores cutting people off weaving in and out of the flow of traffic etc. I almost got run over a couple of times, I HATE IT.

I just know they will be there at the buffet!

That is terrible about the 2 kids fighting (and being drunk) Our society has gotten so PC everyone is afraid to take action ... but on a cruise ship there seriously needs to be more rules - it is a safety issue (especially with so many passengers.

we rarely see kids behaving badly on Carnival ships, they are most often at Camp. The smokers on the wrong side of the ship are way worse than bad kids. The worst thing about the kids is those damn walkie-talkies. I was on an elevator with a girl and she had to keep telling her mother where she was "Stopping on deck 5...beep beep beep....stopping on deck 6...beep beep beep...the guy got off....beep beep beep stopping on deck 7...beep beep beep...the lady is still here...." I was ready to rip it out of her hands and throw it overboard...

Last cruise we had some young teen boys doing the usual fooling around in the elevators. They were wrestling in them and when we were waiting for the elevator doors to open one of them came flying out and knocked me over.

I don't call that acceptable behaviour and the parents were no where in site.

The worst ones I've seen lately, are on the glass elevators in the atrium,,,pushing all the buttons, I later realized that they had grabbed all of the glass elevators, and were racing! ONE FLOOR AT A TIME!

I got off, and took the regular elevators. That happened near midnight!

I find it highly annoying when they play with the elevator off and on every floor.. or running up and down the stairs...

When I took my daughter on her first cruise 13.. heck i was nervous to let her walk to the room by herself ;) hopefully she didnt run the stairs :D

When ive seen kids washing their feet in the drinking fountains.. that is where I step in !!!! and have

I havent seen anything really bad, just some annoying little devils from time to time. Last trip on the Liberty there were not many kids on board, and it was late October, but we did encounter the group of urchins who commandeer the elevators to light up every floor stop from Riviera deck up to the top. While I tsk tsk'd and shook my head, mother laughed and said it was exactly the same kind of antics I might have been up to at that age, and she was right, so we both had a good laugh.:D So they really havent been a big problem for me. Though I have to admit that I am anxious to try out the new Serenity deck on the Freedom.:)

Has anyone witnessed kids that behave badly onboard? What does the crew do about it and where are the parents?

We've never really seen a lot of bad behavior on the part of children on our previous cruises. We've seen some dangerous running around on the ship which could involve falls and resulting injuries and the staff should stop this behavior.

Interestingly, we just got off HAL Noordam last Sunday. There were 197 children on the ship, most perfectly behaved. However, a few decided to have a little food fight in the lido area of the ship and broke a large urn. Congratulations to the captain who came on the PA system and informed everyone that this childish behavior would not be tolerated on his ship. If it continued, per the captain, the involved children and their parents would be put off the ship at our next port. There were no further incidents!!!

Has anyone witnessed kids that behave badly onboard? Yes What does the crew do about it Very little and where are the parents? If I knew I would have thrown them overbaord instead of their spawn.

Kids are kids, they are going to do what is fun for them. The only thing we have seen is them doing flips and jumps into the pool. Well, that and cutting in line at the soft serve machines.

We have never encountered unruly kids on any of our cruises. We have seen kids having some harmless fun, as it should be, but never anything that annoys other passengers or to put anyone in any type of danger.

The same kids that misbehave on ships, are the same ones that misbehave at K-Mart. Kid's running up and down the steps, are a good sign, since don't we want to see them excersising more. Never really had an elevator problem with kids, but I sure do with adults. If you talk about 15 and 16 year olds, now, do parents actually watch them, no, so at that age if they were taught right, they are fine. So on the ship, it is just like at home, some are good, and some need an heavy dose of discipline that they lack at home.

Actually, it's not the crews responsibility, but please elaborate "behave badly". Passing gas? Splashing? dancing?

The funniest thing we ever saw involving kids and elevators was on the Liberty. Three boys had pushed every button on a glass elevator. When the door opened their grandmother was standing there with a younger sibling who had "told on them". The looks on their faces was priceless. They tried to get off and she would not let them she got on with them and said you will apologize to everyone waiting for this elevator at every stop starting with this couple here. We chose a different elevator and are still laughing about this.

On our last cruise, we had about 1000 "kids" on board. For Carnival's purposes, 18-20 year olds are included in that count LOL My husband actually commented that the loads of kids we did see, were pretty darn well behaved. He's usually far more critical of those things than I am. I have to say to him all the time, "Lighten up! Don't you remember what it's like to be a kid?" The worst thing that happened is that we got on an elevator as two 10-12 year old boys were getting off. They were cracking up. Yeah, he found out why as soon as the doors closed; the fart smell was overwhelming, I gagged, looked at DH and just said, "Great!" He read my mind. We have 3 boys (and a girl), so this is what I have to look forward to when they hit their tweens. Fan-effing-tastic :p

Maybe if carnival provided something more than 20 yr old video games in the arcade it would give the bored kids something to do.

The 20 year old ones are the only ones I know how to play :( I still have my old Nintendo NES so I can play old school Mario and Zelda. Mario on Wii is super hard

The worst I remember was a family in the MDR. A group of 8 parents sat at a table by themselves, and had their children occupying another two tables. One of the table of children was next to us - age ranges 8 to 2.

The kids beat on the table with their silverware, threw food, screamed, hollered, threw dishes on the floor, fought with each other, total chaos and disruption. While the parents, a table away, totally ignored the whole thing.

The waitstaff tried to do what they could. We asked to speak to the MD and were told he was aware of the problem.

The next night was formal night, and we hoped and prayed they wouldn't attend. But they did, and there was just more of the same behavior... we skipped the MDR the rest of the cruise.

And no, we didn't tip the MD.

I usually see bad behavior with parents no where in sight. This case they were just disinterested in anyone else's enjoyment of their meal.

As for the drinking teens, that we see often. We've watched them many times pick up drinks/beers off tables left by others.

I have rarely seen kids behaving badly onboard Carnival ships. Quite frankly I have seen more adults behaving badly, drunk, vomiting, being obnoxious, complaining loudly,arguing/fighting over deck chairs, arguing/fighting over seats in the theatre, etc. When kids act up some people act like it's a federal case and are more forgiving to adults.
