GirlWriter Posted April 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2010 Hi there. Does anyone know whether there is a "Hop On Hop Off" type of bus tour that we can do in Monte Carlo? Yes, I know it is a "walking town," but I will have a toddler/stroller/diaper bag in tow and want to avoid schlepping all that up and down the Monaco hills if I can help it. Thanks! Toots Posted April 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2010 Depending on where your tender docks, you can take an escalator or elevator up to the top of Monaco where there is a little open train called "Petit Train" - it's not expensive. It gives you a 30-minute ride through the Principality (the harbor, Monte Carlo including the Grand Casino, and a drive along the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit) and back to the top. There's an Oceanographic museum there, as well as the cathedral where Grace and Rainier were married and the palace itself. Ask when you get off the tender, if you can't find out about it before hand. I don't remember seeing any other HOHO bus.
Rare Hlitner Posted April 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2010 I guess my first thought is Hop on Hop off where? If they did have such a bus it would quickly be bankrupt for lack of business. Monte Carlo is actually a pretty compact place although the hills make walking to the palace somewhat of a challenge. There is a pretty decent local bus system to get from point A to point B. GirlWriter Posted April 14, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted April 14, 2010 Thanks, both of you! Toots, I think the train sounds just perfect and will check into that.
BiggiB Posted April 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2010 Good news: Beginning of April 2010, a brand new, 30-seater "hop on-hop off" started in Monaco, covering the Old Town, Monte-Carlo, Larvotto and Fontvieille quarters. It is called "Monaco Le Grand Tour", stops at 12 different places, and the one-day-pass is € 17. Children between 4 and 11 pay € 7, senior citizens € 15. The explanations are done in 8 different languages. On cruise ship days, the bus even stops close to the cruise ship pier in front of the Yacht Club. If you want to see the Exotic Garden of Monaco, you still have to take the local bus line # 2 (€ 1 per trip), which runs every 8 minutes weekdays and every 20 minutes on Sundays. Have a wonderful day in Monaco!
