Labadee is not a "local port" in the same way that the others are.

It is a fenced-in area of a peninsula on the island of Hispaniola in the nation of Haiti.

The only food and beverages there are those brought off the ship by Royal Caribbean.

really?.....that blows....my wife is Haitian and i was hoping to get some food directly from there......that makes me want to change my cruise completely from the 9 night to a 7 night that goes to Jamaica

thats kinda the only reason i chose that cruise

i remember the last time i had food from royal Caribbean at a port (coco cay)

i was highly upset

In San Juan, go to the El Convento hotel ... they have a courtyard bar that is absolutely the most amazing place we've ever been. The hotel is located on the grounds of a former convent, and it's totally charming. We loved it there, and can't wait to go back.

Oh ... they make a killer mojito.

If that is a deal breaker then change your cruise.

The area of Labadee is fenced in and you cannot leave the fenced area. There is a small craft market where locals sell liquor and souvenirs, but I don't believe anyone is allowed to cook.

I've been to Labadee once, but it was a good while back. Do they not offer any excursions at all that leave the private beach area?

I believe you have to leave the area to get to the starting point of the zip line and roller coaster but that is about it. Unless something has changed very recently RCI does not offer any excursions outside of the beach area.

In San Juan, try Raices. It is near where the ship docks. They serve a delicious mofongo. We have recommended it to several people, including Puerto Ricans who live in the USA, and all LOVED it. It has great atmosphere, delicious drinks and desserts, and outdoor seating, if you wish.
