svetas74 Posted April 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2010 Hi, a few questions: 1. Is statebord better than port (sp?) how do you know which one you are in? 2. Where are generally people who serve in the dining room, cabins and so fourth from? Thank you, Lana
Gonzo70 Posted April 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2010 Starboard is the right side of the ship, port is the left side of the ship. For most cruises one side is not generally considered better than the other. If you say what cruise you are interested in, people could advise as to whether or not one side might be more advantageous than the other.
patsfan03053 Posted April 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2010 Just returned from cruise on Solstice. Our server was from Macedonia, his assistant was from India. Our Cabin Steward was from the Philippines and her assistant was from India. You will also encounter staff from Jamaica, Indonesia, Turkey, Canada, etc. Every member of the staff was extremely courteous. Enjoy!

kitty9 Posted April 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2010 Port or starboard makes absolutely no difference. You don't know from one week to the next how the ship will dock, and when you're sailing it's either at night or you're too far from land to see anything. A ship's crew is international, not from just one part of the world. But I can tell you, it's rare to see an American.
cruisinrg Posted April 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2010 From the pictures it looks like the Solarium is closed in therefore - no sun??

We have seen Americans doing entertainment on Celebrity ships ;but ,not wait or cabin staffs . Port or Starboard balcony cabins are great .Stern balcony cabins are even better
PartyAllDaTyme Posted April 20, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2010 From the pictures it looks like the Solarium is closed in therefore - no sun?? Plenty of sun. It's glass-enclosed, nice for foul-weather days.
txsloth Posted April 20, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2010 From the pictures it looks like the Solarium is closed in therefore - no sun?? Not sure what photo you're referring to, but the Solarium is enclosed in glass--plenty of sun.
angelka123 Posted April 20, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2010 But...do you still tan well through glass? Sorry, I really don't know. :)
patsfan03053 Posted April 20, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 20, 2010 Don't know if the glass is treated to provide sun protection...but there are loungers by the pool on deck 12, plus deck 14 and even tucked away on deck 16. The solarium is a nice place to retreat to though.
Denny01 Posted April 20, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2010 No, you can't get a tan (or burn!) through the glass in the Solarium. That's one of the reasons it is glassed in. The outside pool areas, the outside decks above are all avail for tanning. Being a Floridian, I don't 'tan' intentionally except when out working and so on. But for you, if you want to tan, there are many 'weather decks' for that. Denny
