Does Venice shut down on Sundays and Mondays?

Our ship docks in Venice on Saturday and we're staying until our flight home on Tuesday. I've read that in Venice a lot of places shut down on Sundays (not sure about Mondays). Is this correct?

NO, Venice does NOT shut down Sundays and Mondays.

There are restaurants that only serve Sunday lunch and are not open at night for dinner.

You can certainly visit San Marco Square with the Doge Palace and its "Secret Itinerary tour. Churches may have services on Sunday but then may be open or you can visit them on Monday. The Scuola Grande di San Rocco with Tintorettos life work on ceiling and walls is open every day.

I did not check the closing hours for the Guggenheim or the Academia museum but all of Venice is sooo interesting that I am sure you will find things to see and do.

The Rialto Market WILL be closed but honestly you will have other things to see.

HI again, Both the Guggenheim and Academia are open.

The Academia has shortened hours on Monday but otherwise no prob.

Just back from our cruise. As I suspected, quite a lot of the shops were closed on Sunday, but there are enough that do stay open during the tourist season.

Are you sure the Rialto shops were closed? I thought they were open on Sunday on my last trip.

We visited the Rialto bridge on Saturday and on Sunday. Some of the shops on the Rialto were closed on Sunday.
