 Can someone onboard check to see if new slots were put into the casino - maybe during the drydock?

I was in the Casino in April, after the drydock, but can't tell you whether they were new or not. All slots look alike to me.

I'm on the Sun in January 06 and will continue the tradition of this thread and report Live from the Sun (I will have free Internet Access). My question is, do the computers in the internet cafe have CD drives that I can use to upload and send pictures to family and friends? I have a digital camera and want to bring my laptop so I can burn my pics to a CD and then email to friends and family. Let me know! thanks!

No, you can't burn your own CDs, but the photo shop will do it for you for $10. Just be careful to have them show you the CD after it's done to make sure they're giving you the right one. We had friends who got home, popped their CD in their computer, and discovered they had someone else's photos instead of their own. Very disappointing for them!

Another option being you are bringing your laptop would be to use the wifi internet hot spot that is located in the atrium. The access to this internet would not be free, but it could work good for you if you only use that to send pictures and use the ships computers for the rest of your internet needs.

Great responses by both Beth and Joe which is the great thing about this thread...always an answer for practically any question regarding the Sun.;)

bubbalu,

Don't worry, January will be here before you know it,especially with the holidays to push them through. When we sailed on Jan.28th,it felt like we were chatting about this cruise forever beforehand on our roll call started by Host Anne who still frequents this thread.

Well before you knew it,the holidays were over and we were all on the Sun and loving life!

You will too...

Newbie here!

Wow, I wish had found this website earlier! I just got back last Saturday from my first ever cruise...a cruise/land tour of Alaska on the Sun Princess. It was the trip of a lifetime, but it was so much fun I hope to be lucky enough to have another someday! We had nearly perfect weather while cruising and kept telling ourselves how lucky we were. The luck continued during the land tour as we saw Mt McKinley for 3 straight days. Unbelievable!

Our waiters (Valentin and Amando) were so accomodating and entertaining. It made going to dinner something to look forward to beyond the wonderful food.

I have a quick question and I hope this is the right place to ask it. Is Princess the only cruise line that goes through Glacier Bay and College Fjord on the same trip? We were able to get, I think, as close as you can to Harvard Glacier and were mesmerized by it. Another trip without it (someday) would be a disappointment!

I look forward to reading through this website more and dream of another wonderful trip!

pajomu,

Glad to hear of your wonderful vacation aboard the Sun.

Isn't cruising great?;)

I'm guessing you had traditional dining because you mentioned how you looked forward to dinner every night with the same waitstaff...usually a sign of traditional. What did you think of the food and what stood out as fantastic?

Can't answer your question but you just know someone will.

cruiserforlife,

Thanks for your reply! I had my reply all ready to go earlier today and it apparently got lost. I will now try and recreate it.

You are right, we did do traditional dining. I really enjoyed it! Everything was so wonderful, nothing really stands out. I especially liked the appetizers and vegetables (sugar snap peas and beets come to mind, two of my favorites) that came with the main entrees. Actually, there was one dessert that stood out. It was a combination dark chocolate and white chocolate mousse. It was so well presented I took a picture of it with my dad's digital camera. I haven't seen yet how it turned out.

We were a group of seven and I only remember one thing someone not liking. My aunt always chose the cold soup option. One night it was pumpkin and she really thought she'd like it, but didn't. The waiter seemed like he knew she wouldn't care for it and immediately got her something else. One bad thing in a party of seven for seven nights...not bad!

Each night our waiter would pick an entree, usually something no one had ordered, and order an extra for the table so we could try it. Is this common? We always had way too much food and I felt bad not eating it, but it was nice to just try something different. He would do the same thing with desserts. Not many of those were left uneaten. Someone usually made the sacrifice! :)

It's fun to continue to re-live the cruise! I've commented to many people since I got back that I'd go again in a second if money and time allowed. Maybe again someday!

pajomu,

Traditional is GREAT,especially for your first cruise. It reeks of class and makes cruising really special.I truly now do prefer PC dining now because of the flexibility but I always wonder what I'm missing by not being treated like royalty in traditional...like Baked Alaska which isn't available in PC.

What you're saying reinforces the old adage: Listen to your waiters...they know what is good and sublime...nightly.

Word to the wise: If they suggest it,I will order it.

No worries..you'll cruise again and I predict...sooner than later.

Can someone tell me how passengers are doing in the casino and if the slot machines look new? When the Sun went into drydock for rehab, did they put on new casino equipment?

Round two eh?

No one knows the answer to this question?

So CFL,

When are you booking the Dawn? She's the only sun class you haven't sailed on yet.

I read a not so great commentary on the state of the Sea, bad carpet, cracks in the shower, etc. The Sun is the oldest and she's still in great shape. Love that promenade deck!

I wonder if they have lobster night on the mexican riviera cruise? Probably. But the real question is should I even try to best the records already set...hmmm..I'll have to think about that...

ccrain,

I don't know, that 18 lobster tail bar is set pretty high but hey,you only live once!;)

Having done the Mexican Riviera, I can attest to the fact that they do have lobster on one formal night.I only managed 12 tails on that cruise.

Would love to cruise the Dawn but cruiserforlife's wife has the final say on that one...:o

We are doing our first Princess cruise on the Sun next April 06. While it's still too early to count the days, we are counting the months! (Just 10 to go!)

We've sailed 6 times on Carnival and love them, but we were looking for a new, and longer than 7 days cruise in the Caribbean. Enter The Sun!

We are so very excited.

I have lots of questions, but it's a little too soon to start with that.

For now, I'll just say, "Hi," and I'll visit back with you again.

We will be one the Sun Princess in October (sailing September 29th) for our second 10 day with her....we love the smaller sun class to the bigger grand class. this will be cruise number 8 for us since we got back together after thirty-four and 1/2 years. We dated in high school and lost each other until Classmates.com brought us back together. Hope to see some of you on board.:)
