Conch Fritters

Can anyone describe these for me. Hubby might want to try them, but is a very picky eater.

richbum, see the thread I just posted in about where to find the best conch fritters...mike answered my similar question to yours and described conch fritters as similar to hushpuppies with bits of conch meat throughout the corn meal batter...sounded yummy to me as a southern girl

Depending on where you order, the freshness of the conch and the seasonings can make or break them. The best I have ever had was on Providenciales( in the Turks and Caicos islands) at the Conch Shack. (natch) There they retrieve the conch out of the ocean and remove the meat from their shells as you watch. Pretty gross procedure but yummo!!!!

 

Your husband will like them as the conch is pretty mild and takes on the flavor of the dish.

If you go back to Grand Turk try them at the Conch Farm there. Those were the best I have had as well.

I tried them in St. Thomas in the beginning of April and loved them. My DW who is not a big seafood eater also loved them.

FWIW If you like the fritters you might also want to try the chowder. Made both red and white but the latter is more difficult to find.
