southernmost Posted February 4, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2005 I have personally been through the Pirate Soul Museum, having been invited for the opening. It is definitely Disney-esque, complete with animatronic storytellers (Captain Blackbeard's head), interactive exhibits, and a constant pirate jingle playing. On display is a bunch of Pat Croce's pirate artifacts including a flake of gold that is supposedly blah blah blah. Really underwhelming. But some stuff is neat...a pirate flag, a treasure chest. The twelve dollar admission is steep, IMO, and the exit at the back of the gift shop is a bit heavy handed. The whole walk-through takes about 5-10 minutes. Mostly though, I am amazed at the lauding of the pirate life. Full of barbarianism, brutality, and dominance, I no more respect them than gangsters and tyrants. sstamm Posted February 9, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I just visited the museum this week and I thought it was pretty interesting. We spent more than 5-10 minutes there. The interactive video display talking about the different famous pirates and their lives (and deaths) was very informative. The artifacts were interesting and I thought the interior decor was well done. There are definitely Disney elements, the talking head, the photo with the pirate that you may purchase in the giftshop, etc. I'll agree the pricetag is a bit steep, but considering that everything in Key West is expensive, I didn't think it was completely out of line. If you're looking for something different to do, I wouldn't completely rule it out.
