Linday Posted May 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2010 I agree...the Premium Package would be perfect. I might even be willing to forgo the bar setup to offset part of the cost if necessary.
neverthought Posted May 7, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2010 OMG.......$56.35/day pp equals approx. $676(more or less) for 2 adults for 6 days!! Not for us nor any of our friends we travel with!! If NCL does this ... we and friends are done with cruising!!! Can't believe what lines are doing to make more money...sinful.:( Neverthought

If it's not something that interests you, then don't purchase the package. There isn't an industry out there that isn't in it to make a profit. I know I wouldn't pay that amount for alcohol...but then again, I wouldn't by a soda card either. Just my 2 cents. NayRN
ben55124 Posted May 7, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 7, 2010 They would have to be careful about people "sharing" the liquor card -- A lot more costly than families sharing a soda card.

To avoid sharing, I understand you will have a red L and a corresponding # for the appropriate package tattooed on your forehead then..... you must chug it right in front of the server.:p

For those who really enjoy the alcohol isn't it up to them? Now, if they stop selling liquor except in a package form, that would be different. It is like the soda package, would I pay the price? No, I don't even drink soda, but if others want to, good for them. My guess is, one line introduces it, the rest will follow to some degree or anyother. I guess there are some people who spend hat much, or more, per day but not my husband and I. That would totally blow our budget and we would have less money to put toward another cruise. That $56.35 is closer to our per person budget for an entire 7 day cruise since we usually limit ourselves to one drink per day.

Ours would be a little higher than yours, but I just figured out, even with a bottle of wine at dinner or the corkage fee and what we paid for the wine prior to boarding I would guess our bar bill isn't over about $60 per day (for 2) We usually have the wine and maybe a couple of drinks each per day. Of course we also order a bar set up, just 1 bottle which we would probably still do. Nita
sdgirl1967 Posted May 7, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 7, 2010 I think the drink packages are a good idea especially with the variety of options for wine and non-alcoholic beverages. I think people who want to drink would rather just pay up front. I never could understand why the cruise industry isn't more like the all inclusive resorts with alcohol included. I have been to several of those and you don't have to worry about big bar tabs at the end since you have already paid up front. Just my 2 cents. themaxydog Posted May 8, 2010 #16 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Look everyone this is a perfect example of not everyone wanting the same thing. There is no need to flame someone here just because they think it's a good or bad idea. People cruise for all different types of reasons thats why cruising is so great because you meet people from all different walks of life. Personally I like a drink on a hot or a cold day and I enjoy wandering the bars on sea days meeting people after all you dont go on a cruise to sit in your cabin and watch TV. As far as this package goes I would definitly be in it in some cases, but my wife however would not. My last cruise was US$7.13 per beer so that's around 8 per day if I just drink beer, not a hard thing for me to do when I am on holidays having fun. I think what you have to ask yourself is weather or not you would drink this amount over the length of your cruise. Now if it was a four day cruise personally I would say yes but when it gets up to 10 days and beyond like our next one I think I would slow down towards the end and it may end up working in the cruise lines favour and I most likely wouldn't take the package. The amount of port days versing sea days would have a bearing on it too. A TA cruise for example would be a good one to have a package on with 5 or 6 sea days in a row you could really play up.:D:D:D If you still have an old account it would be worth going back through it and seeing if you would have saved or not thats the only way you will really know. I guess sinful was a wrong word choice. If people want to pay it that's their decision, let them go for it, it is just not a decision I would make. I agree, if they stop selling liquor except in a pkg.form that would be very different!!! Neverthought

jame_g Posted May 8, 2010 #20 Share Posted May 8, 2010 I would never take this option, neither of us drink very much. Although we do buy the soda cards and probably at least break even. However, I have read about people who have had very large liquor bills. These are the people who would want this option.
DC'sgirl Posted May 8, 2010 #21 Share Posted May 8, 2010 My husband and I would totally get the premium package and take full advantage of it. Mimosa's at breakfast, drinks by the pool, wine with dinner, and martinis late night.....come on NCL offer it, and I just may book my next cruise sooner! terrymtex01 Posted May 8, 2010 #22 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Looking at the packages, I might would take the second option that offered the premium coffee if we were not in a suite. With a suite we have that great coffee maker, but if we were not in a suite I could easily drink $18.00 worth of coffee a day.

Just my 2 cents. the problem with the AI idea, is this fair to the non drinkers or those who only want a glass of wine with dinner? If cruise lines were all inclusive we would pay at 1/2 again as much for our cruise. Remember the money makers are: the bar, spa, casino, and tours: the lines lose money on our basic fare rate. Who is flaming anyone here? I certainly think this has been a very interesting discussion, what am I missing? oh, neverthought, I knew what you meant, I just don't happen to think there is anything wrong with a cruise line offering a package, even at the price, I just wouldn't buy one I don't think..who knows and who knows where this will lead? I am seeing a trend of cruise lines keeping the prices pretty stable, but starting to add packages for everything. Good, bad, who knows? mom2tcdx2 Posted May 8, 2010 #25 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Personally while I like a few drinks, I don't drink that much so no I would have no need for that type of package. Between my boyfriend and myself I don't think we spend even $400 between the two of us. I don't drink wine, or beers, while he typically just drinks beers no liquor. I would be beyond drunk if I drank $56 a day in drinks. That would be like 6 margaritas, where I may do 3 at the most through out the day.
