"LIVE" From Explorer of the Seas / May 8, 2010

Recommended Posts

hi Radio,

I noticed on your Oasis "live" post you did a report card at the end to rate the cruise, did you do that for EOS as well? I'll be taking EOS in late October to Bermuda. Second time on RCCL (Mariner 07) but first time to Bermuda, Can't wait.

love your "live posts", makes it more fun to look forward to!

I believe that at night, Latin American music is played here so it sort of functions as the Bolero's Bar.

Not on my cruise 2 weeks ago! Every single cruise I've ever been on had a party every night in the Aq Bar (or Bolero's, depending on the ship). I was ECSTATIC that the Aquarium Bar was now non-smoking so that I can enjoy dancing with the Latin bands, then we get onboard and all they had for 10 days in that bar was a easy-listening quartet!!! I was steamed.

Radio - Was there a Latin band onboard on your cruise??

Heck.

One more cutback.

I remember distinctly walking on the Royal Promenade hearing the music coming up from the Aquarium Bar. Let me go find my compasses and see. This was the 2009-2010 Holiday cruise Dec 09 - Jan 2010

And DW makes fun of me for always keeping all the compasses, never can tell when you will need some bit of info.!

Glad to see you are posting again.

<<edit>>... Yep, there was a latin band named Mirage that performed most nights in the Aquarium Bar, sometimes in the Marajah deck 5 lounge, and at the nighttime pool deck party on Latin American night.

Christie, how many nights did you check the Aquarium?

When we were on in Feb. They had Latin music early 9 PM? Then around 10:30 it seems it was soft dance music. Also before dinner if I recall it was violin music.

Why don't you go over to Meg's live thread and ask her to check it out for you?

Hi Christie. . . There was not a Latin Band on our cruise. There was a LIVE Band every night though. They had the Standard Time Trio, or the Peters Strings in the Aquarium bar every night.

Our first and only cruise has been to Bermuda and I cannot wait to go back, by far my favourite place I've been.

I just noticed that you do basically 5 cruises a year (and thus your awesome LIVE reports). I hope one day my husband I will be able to do the same....:)

Radio....I have a question. Your cruises seem so varied, and you change from cruiseline, to cruiseline. I'm just curious how you go about choosing your various trips???

I really don't like to fly much, so I try to cruise from "local" ports. . .

Baltimore, Cape Liberty(3), Norfolk(5), Boston(10), and Charleston(10).

I still cruise from Florida on occasion, but wiuld rather stay under the 10 hr drive zone. . . .:o

I still seem to frequent RCI ships more than any though. . .:)

Christie, I just came off the Explorer today and there was no latin music on our 9 nighter either!! The Aquarium Bar used to be packed every night on our previous cruises - there was always a great band there and many nights we would sit at the bar and listen to them, but this time there were a few guys and a girl singer who's voice was the worse I ever heard and the bar remained pretty empty the entire cruise. The lady was singing to an empty house..........LOL I filled out the survery and gave them "poor" for live music. I wonder why they took away the latin band?? They really drew a crowd!

Girlfriend! At least you were out in the evening to go listen to the music! I have tried twice to post a review and no luck. Keeps asking me to log on. Yep did that. I think we would have loved to listen to this group to sing us to sleep rather than all the other noises we had and plumbing issues.

Hi Cheryl,

No latin music all nine nights!! DH spends a lot of time in the casino so we were right there most nights and there was the same band every night. It's the first time I ever saw that bar completely empty. There was never anyone sitting there at night except for a few people.

I noticed it right away and was really disappointed in the music that was there. I used to always walk out of the casino to listen to the latin band.

LOL........what are you doing up?? Go get some sleep girl!!! I did most of the laundry (just wash) today, went thru piles of mail and Tony went to our grandson's double header basketball games tonight. I was to tired to go and I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I need a vacation! LOL

Thanks for the info, Patty. Yes, it was VERY disappointing not to have the Latin band there this time, especially now that it's non-smoking. I was ready to party it up! :p The person who it probably bummed out the most was the bartender. I'm sure they rake in the dough when the latin band is there. But, like you, the Aquarium Bar was near empty all the time. Not the 'happening' place it was on every single one of my other cruises. :(

Christie,

I noticed it the very first night! I was definitly disappointed. Was the girl singer there when you were onboard?

Leslie,

We all stopped in to see Troy and told him we were talking to you on line.

Radio, thanks for the link to your website and your cruise history, it

is INCREDIBLE to read!

Can you or anyone give any suggestions of what excursion is good

to do in Bermuda? I have not been there before, and dont really

want to buy a bus pass to try to figure it all out on my own.

That seems to be the thing posters on here say to do.

I did email a taxi tour guide who was recommended (Duke) and

we do plan on taking his tour on the 1st day, so that leaves

the 2nd day. The tours offered thru the ship are very expensive

and dont seem to be very long for the money paid.

can anyone offer any suggestions? I am a water person and would

love any catamaran, snorkel, beach ideas.

thanks in advance!

Patty, too bad you didn't go to the champagne bar each night! We did and we had a blast! Our bartender was HangMi and she was fabulous! I had arranged for our CC group to do a martini tasting on our 3rd night and everyone enjoyed it, so we decided to meet there the following night and do a pub crawl. Well we never left the champagne bar and HangMi had a whole section ready for us every night!!! We didn't have music but we had so much fun and we could hear the music from down below. Sorry the aquarium bar was so dull for you.

Hope you have caught up on your sleep!

Have a good week!

Cheryl,

We were pretty disappointed in the music......none of the bars were crowded at all. We actually ended every night in the casino anyway.......LOL
