smoosh28 Posted May 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Which ruins are better to tour? Trying to decide which port we will take them in on. I looked at posting this on the Ports postings, but wasn't sure which place it suited better, so I apologize in advance if this is int he wrong spot
ChefSusan Posted May 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2010 We did Altun Ha in Belize back in January - heard from friends of ours that when they did Altun Ha last May, it was sweltering hot and there were very little places to "hide" from the sun. I am interested in going to Tulum, but will only go if we head to the Western Caribbean next winter.
travelntreats Posted May 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Personally I prefer the ruins in Tulum... weather wise, depending on the time of year it can be humid and hot at either island. I like cave tubing to cool off when cruising in the summer months.
smd1234 Posted May 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2010 I really liked Tulum too! I think the fact that it's right on the water adds to it.

gonzo1124 Posted May 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Both are impressive, but I think the Tulum ruins are better. Both areas can be really hot in the summer. I believe that it takes longer to get to Tulum.
MrCo9 Posted May 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2010 If you're going to Calica, that is the time to go to Tulum. Going from Cozumel, the ferry adds from 80 minutes to 2-3 hours to your travel time.
Rare Tapi Posted May 11, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Tulum is very nice. They are not the most "impressive". However, they're located right on a cliff overlooking the ocean with access to the beach below. As others mentioned, coming from Cozumel, you'll need to take a 45 minute ferry ride each way, followed by a 1 hour drive each way. So plan for a looong day. -0- The most impressive ruins at any of these ports is Chichen Itza (accessible from the port of Progreso). They're considered one of the 8 New Wonders of the World.
