Which ruins are better to tour? Trying to decide which port we will take them in on.

I looked at posting this on the Ports postings, but wasn't sure which place it suited better, so I apologize in advance if this is int he wrong spot

We did Altun Ha in Belize back in January - heard from friends of ours that when they did Altun Ha last May, it was sweltering hot and there were very little places to "hide" from the sun.

I am interested in going to Tulum, but will only go if we head to the Western Caribbean next winter.

Tulum is very nice. They are not the most "impressive". However, they're located right on a cliff overlooking the ocean with access to the beach below.

As others mentioned, coming from Cozumel, you'll need to take a 45 minute ferry ride each way, followed by a 1 hour drive each way. So plan for a looong day.

The most impressive ruins at any of these ports is Chichen Itza (accessible from the port of Progreso). They're considered one of the 8 New Wonders of the World.
