All Things Splendor

Recommended Posts

Here's a goofy question since I was just on the Splendor in March.

But...does the Splendor have an outside promenade deck, lower on the ship? I sort of looked for one but never saw any doors leading outside.

This has always been my favorite place to smoke, but I had a balcony so it wasn't a big deal to find the promenade.

Can you smoke on it if there is one?

This reminds me of my Princess cruise, could not find the doors to go out to the promenade when I came out of the elevators to smoke. I'd go way to the middle of the ship to get out. I walked down to where there were doors leading inside, saw some man come out. Went in the doors to find a wall with more doors and assumed the doors were locked. So on about the third or fourth day, after seeing more people come out of those doors I decided to go in those doors again. Actually turned the handle of the inside doors and wouldn't you know, there were the elevators, duh!:o:D

Yes, this was a big negative for myself also.:(

On all SPIRIT class ships (up to the time I was on the SPLENDOR) the aft Lido deck open to the sea always allowed smoking on the starboard side. Much to my surprise on the SPLENDOR there was NO SMOKING allowed on any part of the Lido Deck (must go to deck 10 just above the Lido deck)

I enjoyed the fact that the SPLENDOR was laid out much like the SPIRIT class with the open aft bar, adult pool, jacuzzi setup with a 270 degree view open to the sea. (but still had that stupid MDR arrangement, and combination of bars all in one area like the CONQUEST class) I didn't like the thinking that the SPLENDOR moving forward at 20 knots somehow wouldn't allow any smoke off the aft of the ship to move away QUICKLY.

I was amazed also at the NO SMOKING casino bar, although any time I spent in the casino was at the Hold'em poker table, which was also NON-SMOKING.

I'm either going to have to limit cruising to SPIRIT-classed ships, bite the bullet and move up to deck 10, or quit smoking (no proselytizing please).

Oh dear! We are hoping to plan a big group for the Splendor in 2012 but my inlaws are smokers. I won't recommend a ship with a lot of areas that are nonsmoking. Can you please do me a favor and list all of the nonsmoking areas? Especially in regards to the casino.

Thank you so much! We might have to do Spirit instead.

Yes it will be live in our picture cruise journals which I am not allowed to link to here but, if you email me at ritasusan@aol.com, I can send you a link.

(I had the link in my signature but they said it wasn't allowed)

I had already saved the link from your signature so I have it and I'm ready to read. I didn't know that signature links were not allowed. If you have time, try and post a few words on this thread. Thanks so much and I hope you have a wonderful cruise on Carnival Splendor!!! :)

I've figured out where all the food is except the burrito bar. Can someone explain where exactly that is. I don't see it on the deck plan so I'm guessing it's a part of the Grand Buffet?

Unless they moved it....

On the Lido deck plan, between "Grand Buffet" and "The Lido Restaraunt" on the aft side (bottom), the little half round alcove area.

Thank you, I have also been trying to locate this area on the deck plans. Did you try the Rotisserie? I can't wait to have some Mac and Cheese.

I'm also PLATINUM, so when I board I race through the ship and try to get as many pics as I can before the "masses" arrive and blurr or block off so much. Sometimes I get a little in a hurry and some of my pics are blurred.

Thanks again, for your comments.

I just checked out your photos! awesome :) i love how they are all empty rooms, you sure did some racing around :p

I have a couple questions though, the samples in the bathroom. are they in all rooms or just cuz youre plat?

did you find the sun to be blocked a lot because of the raised sides of the pool area where the movie screen is?

Yes there is, cim. Its the deck you boarded the ship on ! :rolleyes:Right off the Atrium bar on both sides is a deck running almost the full length of the ship. There is seldom anyone there (frequently crew members grabbing a quick smoke) and ash trays attached to the bulkhead. Remember, starboard only. :)

Now and then you can find a few chaise lounges here also. Great place to enjoy the sound of the sea (so very close to it on this deck), gets some sun, read a book while enjoying a drink and FEED THE DRAGON. :D

I really had to hurry as I could hear the screams of delight as boarding paxs discovered something new to them. Almost out of breath in some of those (run with carryon, camera, stop, click, run again). :D

I'm sure everyone gets these samples. Some were particularly very good, like the hair rinse and toothpast samples. I would guess, if you were to run out of a particular "goodie" by asking your steward for more, he/she would provide them.

Yes, most of the time. Obviously not when the weather is good and the roof is run back (this pool area has a retractable roof for inclement weather) and the sun is directly overhead. However, I found this area almost always had a little sunshine on one side or the other. Incidentally, this area in the evening time is a big entertainment area with a great band (when I was on her) and movies, and the Carnival dancers entertaining on the huge dance floor in front of the super screen. The pool becomes almost a non-issue at night. :)

Thanks,

I guess I wasn't paying attention when I boarded, just wanted to get inside. Now I feel like duh! :o I must pay more attention!!!:D It's probably because we had an aft wrap balcony waiting.

On other ships this is my favorite deck to smoke on because there aren't many people.

On my Princess cruise, out smoking on this deck and I look down and here comes the walk for a cure  I don't think I have ever put out a cig faster.

I will check it out on our next cruise. And it's getting closer! Have to get through the holidays first.

Thanks again

Yes, there is a secure lock on the balcony doors. Make sure to always keep it locked and closed and don't leave clothes or towels on the balconies due to window and balcony washers who will wash your balcony windows. The crew come up through the side of the ship to clean it.

Ms. S.CA.CRUISER - You will never be lonely on the Splendor. There are lots of people to meet if you cruise SOLO. I do it all the time now.

I love having my own space and it is very affordable if you book way in advance.

I am only paying the price for one person total price for a Cat.1-A. for the Dec. 12th cruise. The cabin is beautiful and spacious. The Cat.1-A's sell out real fast.

Carnival has the bad habit of showing those ugly cabins with the bunk-beds for the cat.1-A's. Those don't exist on the Splendor. The second bed is hidden in the ceiling. The cabin steward has the special key to bring down the bed.

My cruiser friend got tired of cruising with me so now I cruise solo. It is so hard to find friends to cruise with. Some friends are super high maintenance which means they would want me to spend all of my time with them. I prefer to cruise alone than to take a friend who thinks we are still in high school.lol.

I like to choose anytime dinning so I can meet lots of people. Plus, I eat when I want to. There is always room for one more person at a large table to share.

I make friends with the Trivia people and the Kareoke singers.

I love to go shopping on the Splendor. I like to look at everything.

I love to dance too and I just get on the dance floor and dance by myself and then people will join me too.lol. LucyR.

Join us over on the Roll Call for Splendor 12/12 sailing, Lucy!

Loved all the Splendor photos, Gary, thanks for sharing! I can't wait!

I was looking at the picture from the Lido deck onto the balconies below. I will have a balcony on the 8th deck, below the Lido, as well. I am just wondering what part of the deck you shot the picture from. Do you recall? Can you look down onto all the baloncies from the Lido? Thanks.

Has anyone been in an 8C balcony on the Empress deck? I was wondering if there is shade or are they full sun. Also, are they a little bit private or can you look straight down onto the balcony from above? Thanks in advance for your help.

cant answer that question, but you and I are on the same sailing :D 66 more days!!!

I am getting so excited about cruising on the Splendor in dec that I dreamt about it last night!!

A few questions/comments about the ship (its my first time not only on the splendor, but on carnival too! ive only done RCCI, NCL and celeb):

A little more detail about whats available on the ship... exactly what dining options are there?

Has anyone tried the sushi bar? we L.O.V.E. sushi! i also heard that sometimes they serve tapas. is that true?

apparently Im hungry, first 2 questions have to do with food :o:p

is the mini-golf really crowded all the time? it seems to me that ppl would want to do that all the time, especially with kids.

also the movie nights, is that really crowded and hard to get seats?

what kind of special parties are there? i mean like special deck parties.

i have other questions too but i dont want to be a nuisance :p

i feel like i dont want to even sleep on the trip, i want to pack so much in! by the time we go, itll be 4 yrs since our last cruise, so i feel like a newbie all over again (but with more knowledge) and i love that feeling :D

To expand on the food. In addition to what is stated above there is 24hour pizza by the slize (you can ask for a whole pizza, or a calzone), room service, a Mongolian grill, a tandoori thing, the rotisserie, and another grill at the back of the Lido where they serve burgers, fries, dogs, (with ALL the fixins) and these awesome, fresh, flour tortilla chips (With nacho cheese and salsa). Not to mention the Pinnacle which is a great steak house where you can get like a $100 meal for $30. Go to the "cooking demo" there, it's basically a tasting and an advert for the place. It's a great little bonus lunch. And yes, you get to try their famous mac & Cheese.
