Rick Hawaii Posted May 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2010 When we're in Naples, we're interested in visiting both the Herculaneum and the Archeological Museum on the same day. Does anyone know if taxi service is available at our port, and how much would it be to visit both these attractions? Thanks!
euro cruiser Posted May 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2010 There will be taxis available at the port. These two sites can easily be accomplished in a port day. You could also use public transit and save a great deal vs. a taxi. If you choose the special fixed rate, a round trip taxi is 70 Euro (see page two of the attachment on the city of Naples web site here: http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/EN/IDPagina/6665) On your own you would take the circumvesuviana train from the Porta Nolana station and return the same way. To get to the museum, follow the underground passageway to the metro. From the museum, it's a nice walk downhill to the port, or there is a taxi stand in front of the museum. Rare Keith1010 Posted May 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2010 If you go the taxi route do not negotiate with the cab drivers within the port area. Rather, walk outside the port area and talk with cab drivers outside that area. Negotiate the fare up front. Keith
Steirisch Posted May 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2010 We loved Herculanaeum and when our shore excursion from that location got back to the ship, we planned to take a taxi to the Archaelogical Museum. The taxis within the port offered a 12 Euro price (that was 5 years ago, might be more now). We also heeded the "do not use the taxis within the port" advice and walked across the street and asked the taxis there. They were way more obnoxious and told us 12 Euros. Wouldn't negotiate with us. We ended up taking one of those anyway and wouldn't you know it? The Archaeological Museum was closed due to a one day strike by the workers. Hope you will get to see it. Also, our guide at Herculanaeum told us all the good stuff from Pompeii had been taken to the museum.

Podie Posted May 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2010 The museum is amazing. We went to the museum and then spent a few hours at Pompeii, which was fantastic.
Podie Posted May 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2010 You might want to consider paying for a guided tour at the museum. It greatly enhanced our experience.
