Ruby Princess to skip Athens on May 20th

A cruiser posting a "Live From" thread aboard the Ruby Princess said that Princess announced that they were skipping the scheduled May 20 stop at Athens due to political unrest. I think that is the announced date of of the next general strike...:mad:

Think the asian tours with stops in Thailand will be experiencing similar angst :eek:

 

Worrisome time for leisure travels with Volcanic ash shutting down Amesterdam and all the political unrest, whats a vacationer to do, go to Alaska :D

Just back from Grand Med cruise. Some hurdle always being thrown into the plans. First we were on volcano watch (no prob with this, flight went off as planned), then British Airways strike (two cancelled flights, so no direct nonstops left from Heathrow to Barcelona and had to take Iberia from Heathrow to Madrid, then Madrid to Barcelona. Then Athens unrest but by the time we hit that port, they were allowing that port stop again.

 

An English couple was complaining they were to fly thru France and got to AP and just an hour before there was an air traffic controller strike, saw their flight was cancelled so they left AP and come to find out, enough of the ATCs showed up for work anyway and their initial flight flew as planned but 2 hours late. Seems European travel is fraught with obstacles but it was worth it, I had a fantastic trip!

Glad to hear it...I have travelled enough to be able to "roll with the punches" pretty well, but on our upcoming Sept trip we are flying BA and embarking in Athens, so I'm expecting to have to be flexible!!
