tranquility Posted May 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2010  We are planning our fourth cruise and are considering the Dream. We are thinking about one of the balcony rooms located on the back of the ship. Has anyone been in one of these? We are wondering about the noise or vibration? Any other negative or positive comments about these rooms?

Rare jimbo5544 Posted May 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2010 We are in one of the aft wraps this coming August. There tends to be some vibration in the aft of the ships when she comes into a port (must be the side thrusters). We had a aft balcony on the Pride a while back and loved it. DONNAKG Posted May 21, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2010 tranquility- we had deck 9 aft--OMG you will love it,, the balcony was huge..the shudder from the thrusters lasts about 2 min if that into port. Deck 9 you will not get any sun, if you want to sit out, It is best on 6 or 7. Just watching the wake was totally amazing to me, Also everyone seems to strike up conversations as you can look down/ side 2side better in the aft. have a great time-- donnakg any other question about the Dream -just ask, we went in Feb.:D
Chevy57 Posted May 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Thanks for the Deck 9 info you gave so far. Was wondering if you had any info. of the front of deck 9. We have a HC room 9202 in the forward of deck 9. I know it is obstructed but wondered if you had seen this room or what you know about this area of the ship. Anything you could tell me would be helpful. Thank you. Margaret

We are traveling with a first time couple. Do you think the motion is more noticeable aft? We are considering the Valor or Dream. Any other opinions that might help us decide. We are thinking about one of the balcony rooms located on the back of the ship. Has anyone been in one of these? We are wondering about the noise or vibration? Any other negative or positive comments about these rooms? Click our cruise journals as we always have afts and just got off the Dream. We were on the 7th deck. I do think on this ship you would not want a side balcony on the 6th deck mid ship. You will look at people walk by and look at the top of their heads as the Lanai is right below you. Might want to consider, being on 8, not 9...there were some complaints about moving chairs etc in the aft of the 10th deck from the people in the aft cabins on 9 deck Lots of Dream pictures below

JPH814 Posted May 21, 2010 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2010 We had an aft balcony on the Liberty a few years ago. Yes there was soot on the balcony and furniture every morning. Not a lot, but enough to be anonoying. If anything was left out it also had soot on it. That was the Liberty; maybe they figured out how to correct it on the Dream, but I have heard similar reports. I also did not like the fact that there was very little breeze back there. I like the feel of the wind as the ship is sailing. You miss that out back. Third issue: you are a pretty good walk away from mid ship and obviously the front of the ship. On the one hand, it is a good way to walk off the meals on board. But it can be a hassle, such as heading to the gym and spa. Personally, I will not book an aft balcony again.
DONNAKG Posted May 22, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2010 Thanks so much for sharing. We are traveling with a first time couple. Do you think the motion is more noticeable aft? Any other opinions that might help us decide. tranquility--- I have not been on the Valor but it is an older ship, maybe less pricey than the Dream, but if your funds allow I would pick the newest one. If you are big smokers-- the Dream will be a draw back... limited public areas, not even in the casino- only the piano bar.. Your cabin & balcony is still smoking allowed. We definitely did not see any soot & unless you sleep really late in the am the moving of the deck chairs will not be a problem.Actually I dont remember any noise like that. I personally like the absence of sooooo much wind which the aft balconies provide. I know you are probably wanting to make your first -time cruise friends' experience the best you can, so unless they are motion-sensitive I would not worry on what part of the ship I sleep.,because it is all about the same. After a few adult beverages, you will sleep like a baby!!! But like someone else mentioned it is quite a walk , but we are walkers , & I go as slow as I want...LOL!! good luck & ask away---- donnakg:D
tranquility Posted May 22, 2010 Author #14 Share Posted May 22, 2010 Thanks to all who responded. You are the best group! So sharing. Due to the prices we are booking aft on the Valor. The Dream waits for another cruise. But then we cruisers always have to have something to look forward to. ;)
