Amolin Posted May 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2010 We loved our first HAL cruise so much we just booked a second. Our TA said we could get an upgrade to a SS cabin, but she also said the SY may be quieter as it is between two floors of cabins, whereas the SS is under the Lido grill or pool. Does anyone have any experience with the SS in this location or are we better off with the SY?

We were in an SS cabin on the Westerdam. We did hear pool chairs scrapping from the Lido pool area.It wasn't that loud, but we were on an Alaskan cruise so not many people were using the pool. RetiredMustang Posted May 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2010 We were in SY 6099 on Westerdam last year, and found it very comfortable and quiet. Dave
Crusing Bob Posted May 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Like Dave, we have always booked SY6099 3 years in a row and have said we didn't want an upgrade fearing it would only be to a SS with noise.

I can give a better answer if I know the Stateroom numbers and/or a more detailed description, such as deck, area (mid ship, foreward, aft.) Amolin Posted May 21, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Our choices are SS - 8065 or SY 6085. I know there are a few cabins left in SY. I don't know about SS
Rare alexandria Posted May 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2010 It looks like it is the exact same location for both, one is on deck 6, one on deck 8. The cabin on deck 6 (the SY) will have cabins above and below so it may be more quiet (although few folks report noise issues with the deck 8 SS cabins) and is likely less expensive, unless the upgrade to the SS is complimentary. The cabin on deck 8 (the SS) is two decks above the SY but in the exact same location otherwise, has cabins below but it is directly below the lido deck pool area and terrace grill. Therefore, you might hear noise from above if they move tables or chairs or set up for food service. Otherwise, they will be the same, same perks, same layout, same size. I don't know about SS Have you seen the photos and comments from SY 6085 and SS 8052 (just a couple staterooms down and opposite side of ship from SS 8065) here: http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Westerdam/index.html Joanie
