Gratuities - Euro or Dollars?

While cruising in Europe, is it acceptable to tip in US dollars or do they prefer euro?

We did the automatic tipping, and of course, it was in Dollars. When we tipped extra for great service at the end of the cruise, we gave them Euro.

We also did auto tipping, but always gave the extra in US Dollars. I do not think it matter much to the staff, they appreciate it either way !!
